About

Note: Developed by a solo developer. Thank you for your patience, support, and constructive feedback—it truly helps make the game better.
Rhythmic Retro Racer is a music-focused rhythm game built around carefully authored timing and atmosphere. The game takes place in a mysterious room inspired by 90s retro aesthetics, where you select VHS tapes and enter structured rhythm sequences. The room is not a menu — it is part of the narrative.
At its core, the gameplay focuses on precisely authored rhythm patterns, created using professional rhythm composition tools. Notes are not randomly generated or loosely synced. Each sequence is intentionally designed to match the structure, intensity, and flow of the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is a central pillar of the experience. Powerful synthwave tracks drive both gameplay and mood, while visuals, pacing, and tension are shaped around the music rather than reacting to it.
The game also features a dedicated Race Mode, expanding the experience beyond traditional rhythm gameplay. Players can choose between 8 different cars, compete across multiple race maps, earn money through races, and unlock new vehicles through an in-game purchase system. While still connected to the game’s retro atmosphere and soundtrack-driven identity, Race Mode offers a more arcade-focused experience built around speed, progression, and replayability.
As you progress, subtle narrative elements and unsettling moments begin to surface. Without explicit exposition, the game slowly reveals that what you are doing is not entertainment, but part of a larger, uneasy experiment. The sense of control fades, replaced by curiosity, tension, and discomfort.
Rhythmic Retro Racer blends rhythm gameplay with psychological tension, retro-futuristic atmosphere, and a mysterious narrative that unfolds through play — not dialogue.
This is a game about music, precision, and the feeling that something is not quite right.

As someone who's a retro/synthwave fan and comes from playing games like Neon Drive, Distance (by refract), Retrowave by Rewindapp (Which actually delivers on this kind of niche genre), Redout and plenty of other rythmic musical racers; This game is , atleast at its current state , garbage. (If the developers of this game are passionate about this project do not be disheartened by my criticism of your work but use these points to further improve on the product) Here are a few of my objections: -the menu navigation could've been easily build around arrow keys but it's controlled with an inverted axis autistic cursor, -the options are even unreadable from the background light being emitted against the white text, making even choosing the resolution for the game unreadable. -no control over advanced visual themes and the preset setting controls are unresponsive -The cars...where do i begin,..they feel weightless pucks sliding away not even smoothly on ice -game models are really bad and basic, graphically its just flashy with no substance. -Game overall has the feel of those early Miniclip flash era crazy taxi kind of games. -Instead of a relaxing synthwave game that i was looking for, this game was painful and headache inducing nightmare. -There exist better retrowave games on a phone platform and this does not feel like a pc game contrary to its heavy graphical demand. Contrary to the flashy menu, visual design and cool looking ads on the store front, the game is just spammed with visual heavy themes soo poorly optimized. Even though its early access it feels more like a absolute bare bones pre-alpha stage project which was done as a hobby but suspiciously feels like a quickly done cash-grab game that doesn't not intend to deliver on a polish retrowave racing game that we wish for, while there are alternatives that are priced way less even during discounts and are more fulfilling games. I will reconsider this game once it gets out of early access since I only appreciate the concept and idea, but that's all it is right now, a rough work/concept/idea for a game.
for the type of game it is, it is only visually appealing but that is the only pro going for it. instead of spending 7 dollars on this, music racer is a better bang for a literal buck. i was hoping that this would allow you to play with your own music as well but the ost is meh at best.
Bought this game to play casually while in COVID-19 lockdown. Not at all disappointed. If you are a fan of 80's retro/outrun aesthetic, this game delivers. Pros: -Original Outrun/Synthwave style soundtrack -Lighting and reflections are awesome -Satisfying to play -3 difficulties and a practice mode for each level -Developers are accessible though Discord -Realistic goals for Early Access Cons: -Menus (Early Access) -Currently there is no 4K support, control bindings, or controller options. -Draw distance could use some work Overall really fun and I can't wait to see where this game ends up!
In this game you control a car weaving through traffic and obstacles timed to some 80s style trance synth beats. On the way you collect points marked by following a specific and challenging path while also finding temporary power-ups to help deal with the constant onslaught of traffic. Currently there are a few different modes to play and a levels, each with a unique soundtrack. I liked the feel for this game, even for an early access and I hope the developer will continue to work on it. Pros: Quality, rhythmic soundtracks Good looking early graphics Strong, consistent, 80s style for music choice, lighting, and setting Multiple game modes Clear challenge tiers between Easy, Medium, and Hard modes Cons: Not sure if game is lagging during rapid, successive lane changes or if I am just slow Graphics are not perfect yet. There is a small issue with draw distance and some objects/backgrounds look more polished than others It is difficult to know if you hit something or you progress through the level without looking away from the road The 'free drive' steering needs improvement. You dramatically lose control of your vehicle if you go off a jump Final thought: I think this game has a lot of potential and is relatively close to being a finished product. All the developer needs to do is to continue to polish the game: cleaning up graphics issues, expanding levels, and making sure it runs smoothly, and perhaps the option to add your own music. I look forward to playing the game again. 8/10. expecting 10/10 one day.
i loved this game. really nice, retro view, it feels nostalgic.
+ Different game modes (traditional driving, stable speed, only go left or right kind of driving, getting away from a bursting volcano and so on) + Awesome music + Solid controls + Iconic cars + The dev is very responsive and open to suggestions. - No hot seat or split screen - Menu is a little buggy for now (I wrote to dev, they said they will fix it soon) - No modifications (Maybe we could buy some new features spending the shiny things we collected on the road) - We are not able to choose our car (It comes with the road we choose) - No Datsun (but the dev said there will be soon) +/- The game can be very addictive. Overall: 8/10 for now, but I think my score will be increased after the next patch.
This early access game is awesome, the cars are great and the overall look of everything in game is great. It's satisfying racing down the road switching lanes to the beat of some great synthwave music. This game is great enough already and I can't wait to see what the final product looks like.
This game is best for you if you would like to challenge yourself with an intense car racing. The graphics of the game is very appealing and the original music in the background really puts you in the mood for 80s. I can already see myself getting addicted to it. My recommendation for the next version is to have either easier or shorter rounds so it is more comfortable to transition to next levels.
