"Revenant: Through The Veil" is I think some kind of student project.. it's got all the usual attributes of a student project. Looks great, plays terribly, is unfinished and largely unmaintained. What do you do in the game? 3D platforming, lightweight combat stuff, some puzzle solving. But it's all janky, despite the okay visuals and interesting Egyptian theme. One of those mysteries where there's a jarring disconnect between the visuals and the actual quality. There's enough bespoke stuff here that I don't think this is an asset flip. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Pass on this one. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time.
Hi Community. From a far it seems like the time of motion picture has advanced into the realm of the super user. A egiptian love story ,a well made pieace of art. So it seems ,10 min into the game I got stuck in the first puzzle room. Feels like a Real Egiptian Trap (game) for me. Please make a guide on how to advance from the Mirror puzzle room.
Hello Players.. I went into this with an open mind and based on what I read and the visuals, I really wanted to like this game. I really did. Even with the other reviews panning it for the flat color scheme in the beginning (something I think is pretty standard for desert settings) I thought it had potential to be pretty. This is clearly a school project or something. The voice acting is slightly off from the captions and the quality/level mixing of the recording leaves much to improve. Even so, I could support the game if it weren't so damned clunky. Battle mechanics are terrible, no discernible hit boxes and no health measurement for your enemies. Your sword doesn't give much feedback as to whether or not you actually hit the thing or how badly you injured them. Jumping and movement mechanics are sluggish and non-responsive as well. I got through the mirror rooms just fine, they were painfully easy... but the reticle for the Eye of Ra might as well not exist because wherever you point the reticle, the beam will be off to the left every. Single. Time. What's the point in having a targeting feature if it means nothing? It wasn't clear until after several attempts that the reason it wasn't working was because I shouldn't use the reticle to actually aim the beam. Did I finish? No. Why? because after completing 2 of the rooms, you come to a spike pit that is basically impossible to get across. There's a vanishing platform, pretty standard, and it seems like it should be easy... But because the game is so sluggish at times, you can't really double jump, you can't keep momentum, and even if you get to the very edge of the other side, there's no edge mounting so no saving you. I tried a good 25+ times before I gave up. If you're on solid flat land, you can run and jump repeatedly without issue, but you CANNOT do this on the platform presumably because if you get too close to the edges, it won't let you jump anymore. There's hardly any room to jump off that platform because of this limitation, and you cannot just rapid jump if you run and jump onto it. I did not find it compelling enough in design, story, or puzzle to entice me to continue trying. I like a good challenging puzzle platformer, but I want the challenge to be because the puzzles are tough, not because the mechanics are terrible. I cannot recommend this title to anyone who likes the genre at this time. Much shenanigans, Mama Lynn
