Art style is consistent throughout, story develops well, the ending I received wasn't surprising but satisfying. Replay value is moderate. I was finding the story ok but not especially interesting, but then they upped the intrigue with some surprising plot twists and choices. And choices really do matter in this game. As others pointed out, the auto-saving and save options can be an issue. I learned the hard way, and had to replay a lot but the "skip" function helped it go faster. One plus was that if you obviously made a fatal choice, you are immediately allowed to retry with a different option. Be careful how you save!
A well written and well produced gem. I enjoyed this.

The writing is excellent and there are several interesting twists that really deepen the intrigue. It seems like they're setting up for a sequel and I definitely intend to play it if/when it comes out. Note though that this seems more like a single story than a choose-your-own-adventure style visual novel. I only played through a couple sets of different choices, but from what I saw, the story is kind of linear and there aren't many different endings. There are a couple key choices that really only have one option. However, the quality of the story makes up for it. One playthrough seems to take around 2.5 hours, but I could easily see myself spending another couple hours playing through different choices, so I feel like $5 is worth it.
Wow, I did not see this coming. Really brilliant story, although getting the perfect ending can be quite easy to miss. Also the music was simply a masterpiece. All in all, it was a very enjoyable game with a beautiful story and excellent music. Looking forward to more.
I have never had any interest in Visual novel games. This one changed my mind completely and rocked my world. The story that unfolds is so well written and made me want to dwell deeper into the world. I have not played for so long because I feel it´s like the finest luxury chocolate and should only be eaten little by little to give it the proper respect. What drove me to download the demo was the drawing of the dead standing at the edge of the forest. I was so intriqued by the horror I feelt and for the people facing them. I downloaded the demo and after 15 minutes I feelt I must get it and be a part of this adventure. So now I actually written quite the amount of text really without telling anything about the game, and that is how it should be so you yourself can just embrace it like I did. The soundtrack is also fantastic, especially the track "Darkness", it was so good that I hoped to find it in the game folder. I have actually listened to that track alone for more than two hours nonstop. Well I hope you the developer read this review and I hope you understand that how you or your team tell a story really sucked me in. It´s just so very good. Thank you for sharing this journey Olenine.
Borderline on buying?
This game contains a small, polished, and detailed narrative experience. The characters are interesting and heartfelt. I primarily play these narrative-based games, and can assure you that this is a good story with decent pacing. Replaying this game a few times is rewarding, with there being several "clever in hindsight" moments that will only reveal themselves to you after you know everything happening behind the scenes. The game has very few endings, but those endings are determined by a lot of small choices that add up. Several optional dialogue choices will also reveal new information, which also make these endings a bit more profound. I'm happy to try and answer any comments if you have more questions.
A visual novel that takes place in a fantasy world where some people can speak to, negotiate with, or (most typically) destroy the dead. You are sent to a town beset by the undead and have to solve the mystery as to why they are doing this. In the meantime, you'll be faced with a the locals, who are distrusting of outsiders. As you continue through the storyline, you'll learn more about the town's history, the real villains behind everything, and even some information on your own mysterious background. To be honest, I'm not really a huge fan of most visual novels. I'm not sure how I ended up purchasing this one...maybe it was in a bundle or a particular good sale. Regardless, I'm glad I ended up buying it! With many visual novels I start to get impatient with the storyline part way through (often due to pacing issues or predictable storylines). However, there were enough interesting mysteries here that were paced out well enough that I stayed hooked the entire time and played it through in a single sitting. I found the storyline never devolved into an depressive section so large that it just wore away at me emotionally. Also, there is a decent amount of accessible lore within the game, and I'm hoping there will be more stories (either sequels or separate) that are set within the same world. I found the art enjoyable as well. The artist didn't attempt to go too realistic or too cartoony, and instead just stuck with their style consistently throughout the novel. The music went well with the settings as well, which was nice. All in all, I'm happy with this purchase! It probably took me about three hours to finish it, but I went back and redid some choices to check out the alternate ending. I would love to have seen some sort of "decision tracker" included in the game, even if it was an overall storyline "map" that unlocked at the end so I could find the other plot twists without a guide. But all things considered, I think that is a minor gripe compared to how much I enjoyed the story.
Note: It took me a bit less than three hours to finish the game (with both endings and the epilogue). I'm not sure why Steam says I've only played an hour. Revenant March is in my opinion a hidden gem of a VN—an excellent dark fantasy mystery with a lot of twists, but none of them ever manage to come off as contrived or just twists for the sake of having twists. Whenever I thought I had the story figured out, it would introduce new information that completely changed the way that I saw it. While there are plenty of choices, overall the game has a more or less linear plot, with no routes (and no romance subplot at all) and branches eventually merging into the main story until near the end of the game where the story splits into two distinct endings (considering the content of each, I would be willing to label one as the good ending and one as the bad ending). That said, choices throughout the whole story affect which ending you get, so it's not like a VN where the ending you get is determined by a single choice 5 minutes before. There are also plenty of opportunities for short dead ends along the way, but the game is nice enough to send you back to the choice that killed you whenever you get one. There's lots of very interesting worldbuilding here (generally without resorting to infodumping), and while I wouldn't say the length is unsatisfying, I would love to see more stories about Olenine, or just more in this setting. The art is fine—it's very obviously an indie game (I say this with affection, as someone who has played and loved a lot of indie VNs with wonky art...and some high-budget VNs with wonky art, tbh), but never outright bad or detracting from the well-written story. The music is always appropriate for the story, although I wouldn't say any of it ever stood out to me as exceptional while I was playing; that said, there's a music gallery to let you listen to the songs on their own. I got this game for $1 on itch and honestly feel like that's way too cheap for how good the story is here; it's definitely worth full price (only $5!). I think the art and the lack of romance might dissuade some VN players, but if you're in the mood for a mystery and willing to give it a shot, I don't think you'll regret it.
Nice story line, its just not my things, get bored and hurt my eyes looking at the screen for hours (even though i just play less than a hour) I rather read manga/comic.. Sorry but i won't recommended it, i'm not a patient guy, especially on this era~~~ Rating : 2 (1 = Worst, 5 = Best) • Graphic: 2 • Control: 1 • Music: 1 • Story: 1 • Entertaining: 1 • Kill time: 4
