"Return NULL - Episode 1" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Return NULL". Return NULL is an abandoned series of point and click adventures set in a familiar dystopian society under oppressive rule. You play as Jack Drebin, a security force member whose predictable life is thrown into disarray. The player clicks through environments, engages in dialogue, collects items, and solves puzzles, occasionally participating in rudimentary shooting sections. At least that's how the developer presents it. The developer deceptively pushes this as a free product but the actual intent is to get people to buy the other chapters through ovepriced DLC. Except nobody wanted to because the quality was way too low, so the developer gave up and stopped making chapters like 10 years ago. This is just unfinished pollution and advertising on the Steam store, and has no merit aa a full game. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Return NULL, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Return NULL - Episode 1" too. This is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Advertisements and incorrectly published demos don't add +1 to your game collector count, they aren't full games. It's impossible for me to recommend this incorrectly published advertising spam to gamers, you deserve better than adverts.

I'm finding this to be a fun story the artwork is beautiful kinda like bladerunnerish feel with the folors I love the style easy to read only goes to the next sequence if you click to continue. If you like a really good story this is it. I'm glad there is no voice acting causer then i can make my own voices for the characters when reading it. Most of the negative feed back seem tobe from lazy gamers that dont like to read or enjoy looking at the artwork. if your a leisure person like me that enjoys reading and acting as the characters youll love this if you like bladerunner or neocab you'll love this

Tags: Adventure - WC - Walk Clicker Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Unfinished Episodic. Generic cyberpunk arcology setting. Cop story that full of cliches. Story goes fast due to tiny content. Feels artificial. Puzzles hard to figure out despite few items and hotpots. To be honest I probably couldnt have figured out what to do half the time without the helpful Steam Guide. The music was alright and the interface followed a rather standard Curse of Monkey island type presentation. With you summoning a simple talk, look, take menu on hotspots. None of the characters are all that believable or interesting. The story feels forced and quickly devolves into achetypal caricatures of what they really should be. The art itself was a mixed bag of cost-savings and some nice backdrops here and there. The lack of animation is somewhat made up for with the comic book type action strips. I found the general model somewhat more enjoyable than a lot of nineties walk clickers, the game had a tooltip to tell you where different locations led to and the game was, for the genre, not *too* disorienting despite the stutter navigation nature of these types of games. In the final analysis there really is little here that stands out as really worth your time or effort. It is somewhat nice to see what could be done with this kind of a concept, and this makes for a half decent sort of showcase for that. But it does little more whatsoever. Additionally it has been about three years since last episode's release so this trilogy will most likely never be finished. Probably for the better that way really. Removing permanently from library into hidden archive for declutter purposes.
I have only episode 1 of this short text point and click game. This is not necessarily a bad game, but it is too inconsistent.
