Take a rather scenic trip through a computer as an Antivirus program, blasting away at corrupted data (which kinda reminds me of the same kind of corruption in Hob), dodging file transfers (trains, basically), and other corrupted processes; as you chase a worm, and the corruption it leaves behind throughout the computer system. It's a nice change of scenery of the inside of a computer (has a rather Aperture Labs look/feel to it), compared to the more commonplace Tron-esque style. Of course, expect plenty of bickering between different parts of the computer, as you do your job cleaning up the mess caused by the meatbags outside the machine (Collect the emails thrown about the computer for the story from outside). At least you won't need to worry too much about health and ammo, seeing as those regenerate after taking cover for a moment. As lame a feature that may be; for this game, it actually helps. Expect to die plenty, if you don't have your technique with the weapons down (Who needs upgrades? I didn't (0-upgrade playthrough; didn't want to compromise what's been working. Though to be fair, I could have invested in one or 2 things. Oh well; still beat the game anyway. ^_^). Earned up to 15-16 levels by Final Boss (1 upgrade per level), enough to specialize in one field or another). And probably the most BS battles you might run into are any battle involving the Worm from the beginning, endgame cave systems, and maybe the final boss. But depending on your approach, expect to pull some BS of your own. Makes the regen of health/ammo more forgivable. I had fun. Don't know about the rest of the reviews. Guess it didn't live up to their expectations. This was a welcome change of pace from the usual 6DOF FPS. Caution: Cravings for calamari may follow your playthrough, after you pass the mid-game. Plus, for some *easy* rare sub-10% achievements, just beat the bosses of this game. It appears most-all people who bought the game gave up early (I can understand, to a degree; expecting Descent, but got an adventure instead. A bit of a slow start, and then a difficulty spike mid-game; but worth sticking around if you enjoy the game. At least you know which way is up, in most cases.). NOTE: Some bugs are around on occasion. Some are affected by save/loading, and others are just random and annoying. In some cases, corruption bulbs disappear, and are thus unkillable. And some enemies might drop out of radar entirely. A few levels, I had to scan through entirely, only to never find the rogue enemies. On the plus side, you can revisit levels, and play hide 'n' seek with the missing items, or attempt persistence, and try to wipe out the corruption bulbs before the save files get corrupted in the manner of which the corruption bulbs disappear. It's mostly caused by manual saving, and not so much the checkpoint saving. So some level revisits may be required if you're the achievement hunter type.

goodbye
Retrovirus was a fantastic 6DOF fighter/RPG hybrid with some slick themes. Cadenza Interactive released a variety of titles back in the day, all of them fantastic. It's a shame they're no longer around. If you're trying to get it to run on Proton, try adding the following to your launch options and using Proton GE 9-22: WINE_MONO_OVERRIDES=Microsoft.Xna.Framework.*,Gac=y %command% It doesn't seem to work every time, but it works often enough and I'm glad to get a chance to play the game again.
It's sad to see a gem like this disappear. I'm not clear on where the money has been going for the last 10 years, but grab it while you can.
A FANTASTIC Descent clone
Not quite as fun as the original on which it is no doubt based, but fun nonetheless.
A pretty decent 6DOF shooter that is certainly worth it on a sale.
It's okay, but aiming is totally broken in this game. despite being a 6DOF game, it is constantly trying to snap your camera to a certain axis. I couldn't find any settings to turn this off. It make combat really annoying because you can't actually aim at what you're trying to shoot.
I'm not hackerman enough for this
Great game. Good concept and well executed.
