So fun!! The game hooked me in right from the start. Lots of customization available and an obvious linear pathway to getting your store to it's full potential. I got a couple mods (nothing game breaking) such as a real movie mod and a montage of trailers to play on the tvs and it felt like such a dream. The game can be as hectic or as easy going as you want it to be. Runs really well, plays great, looks awesome. Has a lot of room to expand upon itself and hopefully they do!! Checks all the boxes for a solid sim 5/5!!
Fun, Nostalgic & funny movie titles. 7/10
Retro Rewind scratched an itch of organizing and designing. I would genuinely laugh at some of the absurd movie titles. Graphics are pretty good even on Steam Deck (I played primarily on my PC but would occasionally play on the deck). Some of my gripes with this game are the employees falling asleep, customers tossing movies if they got upset, the annoying pointless phone calls and the lack of number of employees I could hire. Having a maximum of 2 employees and 1 cash register felt off balance, and I think employees assigned to Return station should handle customer requests I would recommend this game to people who want to run their own movie store, I'd say this game is a 7/10.
Devs are active. Worth $20.
Phenomenal game that truly encapsulates the video store experience. The vibes are immaculate and the sim elements are quite satisfying to play.
Retro Rewind is a fantastic no-stress simulator taking you back to the 90s, it captures the feeling and keeps you going with the weekly new releases that are always references to classic FANTASTIC films so you can really feel like you're in the time period. I wouldn't consider the game finished but there's definitely enough here to shove 10-25 hours into in a casual run easily. As of writing this review there's a repair bench so you're never losing money on broken tapes anymore and a new VCR renting section that HAS to be manned by you, not staff. I definitely recommend picking this up and playing it, it even has a DEMO! So try it out! I enjoyed it so much I livestreamed my complete playthrough of this game. Now for a few "negatives" (honestly they're more nitpicks but QOL update can easily fix) I will say I'm not too impressed with progression as it currently stands, having to wait until near the end of the game to get a second staff member is a bit silly because even with 2 staff members YOU still have a lot to do and have a lot of customers to deal with, plus having to babysit the two laziest staff is a lot to do lol. Even with a Fast Staff member on Returns they will STILL be dealing with them LONG after closing time, which I find massively unacceptable. Also please let them carry more than 4? Like come on I can carry 10 with my bare hands!
Peak. Its everything I wanted it to be. Can literally smell the store
That's like super cringe and weird... I spend at least an hour on the demo. After it, I bought the game cuz it was dope and spend around 2-3h in it. And Steam just started counting today... Whatever, so, I will praise the game, but wanna write something and hope the devs will see it: The game isn't greatly optimized. The demo was kinda better. But it kinda overheats my PC. I can run it on high or even epic... but I am forced to lower it between high and medium just so it doesn't overheat my machine... pls, do something. About the game - yes, it's very addictive. Really love it. The settings are great and the gameplay loop is very fun. I couldn't let it down. After playing the S out of the demo, it was an easy buy. This game is a masterpiece <3
