I am an old school gamer and have great memories of playing Nitro on the Amiga. If you know, you know. This is essentially a new age version. 😁 I've got this game on Android but being able to play this on my PC with a proper controller is wonderful. Handling is great and controls are perfect. Just needs some achievements, and then any further updates to the game would be greatly appreciated.
Man, what a damn lovely game. I love those top-down racing games, and this is one of the best I've played on Steam. It reminds me a lot of the Amiga game ATR, but like if the author had read all feedback that game had and made it better. The tracks, handling, the intrack uprgrade mechanic, even the game palette feels a lot like ATR. But now you can see how your car is being upgraded, you have a pitlane to fix your car. The difficulty isn't brutal as in ATR, but I saw one track that's REALLY challenging, so I guess they left some real challenging tracks there. The tracks, as in ATR and Nitro, are greatly designed. Many have bifurcations where the longer paths gives you more upgrades. The AI cars cut cornes and take shortcuts (as you will), so they give you a nice challenge instead of being mindless drones. I haven't even tried the splitscreen mode yet, but surely will in my next gaming night with friends. The game is very polished (the AI cars talking to you when you crash on them is a real funny detail), controls are really easy (just one button, left and right), it has online leaderboards and it's so damn fun to play. If you like this kind of game, you really can't go wrong with Retro Racing 2. Brill game.
Here I am - 50 years old playing a game that I could have played on my Amiga 500 35 years ago. I'm loving it!!!
From the dev who made A.T.R over on the Amiga, it certainly shows in this new game and thats no bad thing, plays just like A.T.R tho visually this one looks more like Super Cars 2. It warns its best played on a controller but it works perfectly find on keyboard, i didnt feel controller was any easier as everything is kept nice and simple to use. Also tried it on my Steam Deck, runs perfectly fine, no issues launching it and it correctly uses 16:10 aspect ratio when using handheld mode. Its a nice blast from the past, like it, esp as i still play A.T.R now and then.
I already owned this great little game on both iOS and Android, but didn't think twice about buying it again on Steam. It's a fantastic little racer that prioritises fun over realism and is all the better for it. Courses are nicely designed - enough of a challenge to make them worth playing, without them being frustrating. The graphics are cute and colourful and perfectly capture the 8 and 16 bit era, without sticking too slavishly to them. The ability to use a controller rather than touchscreen controls makes the game even better to play (although the iOS and Android touchscreen controls were pretty good) and the whole thing is just fun, fun, fun. If there's a criticism, it's that it's not the toughest game in the world - an hour in and I've almost raced all the tracks (and come first on most of them), although there's still the challenge of buying all the cars. Frankly, though, I'd rather have a short game that gave me a few hours of immense fun, than one which has a longer term challenge but feels like a grind to get through. Fans of fun, arcade racers should buy this. End of.
Retro Racing 2 by the maker of top down racers Nitro and ATR on the Amiga is a much more polished and playable game than either of those gems from yesteryear. I bought the game on Android a while back so have played it a lot on there so knew what to expect and it definitely doesn't disappoint. It converts brilliantly to the big screen and the sense of just one more go trying to shave a tenth or 2 off your times is really addictive. The graphics are slick and polished to the maximum whilst the levels really fun and challenging. Hopefully this does really well and we maybe get some more levels released or if not Retro Racing 1 released on Steam which was a big hit on the Ouya of all systems ! Great game definitely worth a go, especially for top down racing fans.
This game is made by the same author of the old classic racing game "Nitro" for the Commodore Amiga, and inherits many of its features and the overall feel. Now, if you like the fast 2d scrolling like the good old arcades, multiplayer in the same (real) room on the same screen up to 4 player like the good old afternoons of late 80s and 90s, you are welcome and this is will be a great game!
13minutes are enough to understand that what we get here is the best possible 2d racing game I have ever played. The controls are just fantastic and so intuitive ! The GFXs are juicy, SFX perfectly match.... what Can I say ? It's just tons of fun and exactly what I was expecting for ! Thank you so much !
Good game
Best racing game <3
