I have to say it: I think this game is a fcking masterpiece. I've now my 8th RE title and i have to say its one of the best. There are only two things that really annoyed me:

[*]fixed cam: but you can't blame the game, it was just the time and they even use the cam in some really clever ways. For example you cant see around corners normally but there are in one place mirrors so you can see the zombies. Or in another room the cam was under the table in a corner of the room which felt so horrifying like you were being watched. And i have played RE 0 before so it wasn't that bad.
[*]the ink ribbon: yeah you can say i am spoiled but i still dont like it that it takes an item to save the game. I forgot one room in the main mansion and there was 3 ink in there and so i had a little shortage like always. And thats always annoying.
[*]and a small thing the randomness: it is very hard, at least on your first playthrough, cause its so random sometimes. For example, what i really didnt like, was that you have to burn the bodies of zombies, so they dont turn to crimson heads. And i only read somewhere about it, cause i didnt know what to do with that item.

But now to the positive things in this game:

[*]puzzles: they are in my opinion the coolest and maybe hardest i have seen in a RE game. Also probably the most, which i really appreciate. I admit i had to google with the billiard ball puzzle or the armor trap room. But some were just awesome the clock puzzle, the one with the paintings, the red book puzzle, where you had to sort the book spines, the V-JOLT mixing. Genius puzzles with love to so much detail even and you really feel that the devs put thought into it. But not only the "normal" puzzles are awesome. Other things like the drainage of the aqua ring or poisining the small plant in the mansion.
[*]it was the first RE title. So it had to indroduce so many new things and it did that almost perfectly. The story, the enemies, the mecanics and the herbs, that are used in other games and are iconic today. Even in RE requiem there is still the tyrant, Plant 42 and the spider, which all links back to this game. You have to take a moment and thank this game for its service.
[*]detail: it is insane. Especially the mansion and the lab look awesome with all the paintings and decorations. And that includes also the items you find.
[*]story:[spoiler] ok i think, nobody will ♥♥♥♥ their pants, if i told them, that wesker was evil, but what a reveal it must have been playing this game, when it released originally. Fck me. So good. How they let you think Barry is the evil dude, when he leaves you in the mines alone, then he helps wesker cause he gets blackmailed and then he has his heroic moment. And for wesker, if you read the files you can read, that he was one of the lab guys and even see him in one of the photos. The story is not in a big scale, but it is fun and very clever imo. Also Jill is great as a main character (haven't played chris yet, but lets say in village he didnt perform too well)[/spoiler]

If it hadn't fixed cam and had normal saving, it would maybe be my favourite RE title. But im sure CapCom will soon remake it again. In the end i rate it a 9/10 and a must for every true RE fan, but keep in mind its not something for larpers and you won't complete it in 7 minutes.
