Resident Evil Revelations 2 — Review

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is probably one of my Top 5 Resident Evil games of all time, and I genuinely really love it. I really enjoyed the story, especially because of Barry, a father who is willing to sacrifice himself for his daughter, and Natalia, who is mysterious and has her own important role in the story. I also really like the characters, the unique and enjoyable gameplay, the twists, and especially the beautiful and cinematic cutscenes. The game has some great characters and some really good bosses, which made the story even more enjoyable for me.
However, the game definitely has some problems. I don't like all of the maps, because most of them aren't that great, while some are just average. The biggest problem is that none of the maps are particularly memorable to me. The only location I can really remember is the Tower, and that's basically it. The graphics are also pretty awful in my opinion, which I find especially hilarious because the game has some beautiful cinematic cutscenes, yet the actual gameplay graphics feel so flawed in comparison. It's like the developers put all their effort into making the cutscenes look amazing and then forgot about the gameplay visuals.
Another problem is the low replayability, mainly because of the maps and enemies, which don't give me much motivation to replay the game multiple times. I also can't ignore how much the game reminds me of The Last of Us and The Evil Within, almost like they were combined into one Resident Evil game. Some parts feel heavily inspired by those games, especially the story and atmosphere. Even so, I'm completely fine with it because I think Revelations 2 has a genuinely good story, great twists, and characters that kept me interested.
Overall, Resident Evil Revelations 2 isn't perfect, and it definitely has weaknesses with its maps, graphics, and replayability, but the story, characters, gameplay, twists, bosses, and cinematic presentation make up for a lot of those problems. It's a game I really enjoyed, and despite its flaws, I would still confidently put it among my Top 5 Resident Evil games of all time.
