The fact that you have to buy the episodes as separate DLCs already tells me a lot about this game. It's clunky, janky, and buggy. The story and voice acting are cringe to the max, and I could barely stop my eyes from rolling. This is one of the worst Resident Evil games I've played. Even Revelations 1 was better. Combat is frustrating too. Enemies are bullet sponges, and they can also insta-kill you. You think 50 bullets and 20 shotgun shells will last a while, but you'll be empty after just a few enemies. They sometimes spawn wherever you are, and the AI sidekick is dumb enough to get killed more often than not. Sometimes you even have to play as the sidekick and do all the work while the main character dies. They do occasionally shoot and help, but rarely enough to matter. Because of that, you constantly have to switch characters, and when the game bugs out, they get stuck and stop moving entirely. Then you have to restart the whole scene and hope your last save was not too far back. Autosaves are badly placed, so you can easily end up in a terrible state. There is also no pause when the inventory is open, which means you can get killed while trying to combine or craft items. The minimap is not helpful, and the game is full of weird design choices like blue footprints on the floor to show you where to go, as if the game thinks you are incapable of basic navigation. It is like yellow paint, but more insulting. There are also lag spikes when entering new areas and annoying fade-to-black transition. The little girl sidekick also keeps losing her brick weapon when changing areas or climbing stairs, which is annoying. There are so many bricks lying around that it makes no sense if there are no enemies around. Visually, everything looks the same. The areas are bleak, boring, and ugly - the kind of environments I have not seen since the early 2000s. The box-unlocking minigame is more annoying than fun, and the gem collection system for upgrades feels like bad design. Those gems do not even fit the game's world or atmosphere. The last episode is too expensive for how short it is, and the story left me confused rather than interested. I am not interested in playing the extra DLC episodes either. I hate this game.
This was a solid game, the puzzles were sometimes actual puzzles, the moment to moment gameplay was solid too. It's not a great game, but it's good. Story felt incredibly short but stretched over like 9 hours of gameplay, the pacing was ♥♥♥♥, and easily could've been a far shorter game. I still don't like the whole "use other character to find items" ♥♥♥♥, first game did that but instead of another character it was a tool, it's just annoying and doesn't really serve a purpose. 6/10
As someone who hates abandoning games halfway through, I simply couldn't force myself to finish this game. This game is basically A MEDIOCRE REPLICA OF TLOU. If you remove Resident Evil from the title and took iconic protagonists such as Claire and Barry out of the story, all you'd be left is a cheap TLOU fan game made with free assets! Capcom tried to make up for the mistakes they made with RE6, but they only failed miserably with this one. At least RE6 was fun despite not being a horror & survival horror game. Yet RER2 isn't entertaining at all! How did they manage to make the sequel to the first Revelations game (which was a great game overall) this boring? First of all, I want to criticise the characters. I'm so disappointed with Claire in this game. She feels out of her character! For example, Claire, who saved Sherry from Raccoon City and literally became her surrogate mom, suddenly doesn't know how to communicate with a scared little girl in this game! But as disappointing as Claire is, she isn't the worst-written character in the game: IT IS MOIRA! She's nothing more than a generic edgy teen with daddy issues (YEAH, SHE HATES BARRY, WE GET IT!). There is nothing particularly interesting about her, and she's just being annoying in general! Okay, I understand what Capcom was trying to do with her character but they ended up creating one of the most generic, irritating, and the dull character in the whole series! I was so excited to see Barry (I have no negative comments regarding his character in this game), but once again, I was disappointed by his gameplay. We are basically replaying the same areas we already played as Claire! I know this is the narrative style of the game, first Claire's story then Barry's, but the game becomes even more dull because you're playing through the same maps over and over again! I won't comment much on Natalia to avoid spoilers. I just wonder how Capcom will bring her back in future titles. I guess I should mention Alex Wesker too. She was not a mediocre character overall, wasn't poorly written either. Yet it is obvious that she's mainly an attempt to continue Wesker's legacy (Capcom is clearly regretting killing him in RE5). If her name was Alex *something else*, nothing would change storywise. But despite her forced connection to Albert Wesker, I liked her role in the story and the Kafka references. Mechanically, again, it is a poor copy of TLOU. Especially, the two-character system is unnecessary. There is no reason to play as Moira or Natalia unless you're trying to open those crates! Moira is so useless, the only things she does are holding a flaslight and carrying a crowbar! Natalia is not much different, she only has inhumane senses and the ability to throw bricks! Nothing would really change if they were unplayable NPCs! I won't waste my time further by criticising this game. The game is far from being a classic Resident Evil title, and has almost nothing to do with the series except the story. This game is clearly developed to make use of TLOU's popularity, but failed due to being mediocre. I don't know, if you are a die-hard TLOU fan, you may enjoy it. But for me, it was a complete waste of time & money, and probably my least favourite RE game.
Pretty great gameplay, shooting is fantastic, movement is a bit clunky and dated, but the raid mode is again pretty fun and definitely worth a spin, again, where this game shines. The story mode has a coop feature that is really cool in theory, in practice I can't imagine playing the entire game with just a flashlight or the ability to point. In single player you control both, each having quite a different playstyle, the "main" having access to firearms, the "secondary" being able to see secrets and open specific chests. Really cool in theory, but as solo player especially with the flashlight, I missed a lot, only becoming an issue when it was required during a timed segment with no hint. The actual story is quite interesting, building off the lore of 5 and showing off a decent villain with incredible final boss design. Despite all of this, I can feel the lean towards action and [strike]Resident Evil 6[/strike] to it's detriment, from the over-the-top explosive setpieces, the emphasis on experimentation through fear, to Claire looking like Julie Kidman, the feeling that persisted throughout was "I think I'd rather be playing The Evil Within." Not a bad game by any stretch, I do think this narrative is stronger than the first game, but the Zenobia is a much more interesting setpiece. Overall yeah give it a shot. And bonus points cause it deals with ouroboros and you can play as Rachel in raid mode.
Иногда, когда играл за Барри, даже возникало ощущение, будто играю в The Last of Us. 💞
At this point, i have pretty much played all the Resident evil games that are on steam and i enjoyed all of them. This one is no exception. for such an old game, it has great visuals, atmosphere is fantastic and it makes you stressed the whole time, which is something that i lacked from gaming these days. Dark zombie horrors are not made anymore, especially this good. Capcom just nails every one of their zombie game so perfectly, it just rises your standards to a high level to the point were average game similar to this does not even feel right. Honestly, only game that i have played and enjoyed, which was scary was RE and Outlast. At first, I thought, having two characters would make my experience much more difficult that it had to be, but i was wrong. they have implemented it so perfectly, a bot does not feel like a burden to you. With that bot, you can extend your inventory, let them search for hidden gems or bullets and they are an extra character that add to the game. Even though, the game was barely 10 hours long, you kind of had 5 different main characters that were all memorable, because of having a second bot character beside you. It also offers alternative endings. One thing about that, you have to get the best ending otherwise, the hole story seems a bit off. I got the worst one and i lost track of how the story even got to the point. In addition, one of the DCL is almost pre-set, meaning, it is expecting you to have got the best ending, otherwise, you will not understand how one of the characters ended up in the DLCs. I could not figure it out untill i watched a video of the better ending of the main story. Game is great and it is super cheap on sale, get it and test it out. it has been a long time since i have given a game thumbs up.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is another game that stayed with me for a long time. I still enjoy playing it even now. I really liked how the game balanced action and survival horror. The atmosphere was good, the characters were memorable, and playing through the story always felt fun. It may not be the biggest Resident Evil game, but it had its own charm that made me keep coming back. Raid Mode was honestly one of my favorite parts. I spent a lot of time in it, leveling up characters, trying different setups, and just having fun. It added so much replay value and made the game feel bigger than just the main story. I really wish Capcom would make Resident Evil Revelations 3 someday. A game with Rebecca as the main character would be amazing. Maybe nostalgia is involved again, but I still enjoy coming back to this game after all these years. 9/10
Nota 7,7/10
