TL;DR It's good enough to play but not to call my favorite, Play it.
There is a lot this game does right and a lot that just feels bad.
The actual horror themes are the most apparent in this entry more so than any other in the series to this point but it also seems to put that more forward than actually feeling good to play.
I'll preface this with saying that RE2 Remake is my favorite RE game with Village right after. The game feels horrid to control, the walking is slow which I can forgive since it's the first fps game they've made and the environment itself but walking in any direction that isn't immediately forward is the slowest movement in a game I've ever seen and the sprint is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pitiful, better described as a fast walk. Something about the aiming on controller feels like you need to smash the stick in the direction you want to aim, played on 7 and 8 aim sensitivity btw, and smaller adjustments feel almost impossible as they either shoot past where you were intending to go or just don't move at all. Maybe something with deadzones but I've beaten Marguerite and haven't changed anything other than sensitivity.
The map is fantastic and definitely invokes the atmosphere they were shooting for. The only technically negative thing I can say is that the Baker's much be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ billionaires for the amount of land and buildings they own. I also have to question why some parts of the buildings exist at all, like the dissection room, chainsaw arena area and dual industrial generators in the basement as well as the mini morgue. Unless there's some piece of lore I've yet to see, it's very, very strange.
The monster design isn't anything to write home about but they do the job they were meant to, lumber through the buildings and be a horrifying mass of teeth and mold. The Baker's themselves are fantastic antagonists that, immediately upon meeting them, you know what they're about. Jack is a loveable oddball that delights in what he does but doesn't take it beyond doing solely what's necessary unlike his son, Lucas. Margarite is a woman taken by faith in Eveline and what she's done to and for them while still acting as the woman of the house who obviously still cares for her family but the mold in her brain obviously took a toll before being transformed and caused her to fall deeper into a religious fanaticism regarding the mold. Lucas is a piece of ♥♥♥♥. Smart in the way of technology but I genuinely hate him and that was entirely the point.
The game is fantastic with a few things that seem to hold me back from calling it one of my favorite RE games, hell I'd even love to call it one of my favorite games in general but I just can't, the movement and shooting don't feel good as well as the light adaptation that is hard coded into the game. I want to call it so good but I just can't get over those.
I definitly recommend the game and think you should even get the DLC but just keep in mind, I've played for 6 hours and still haven't gotten used to it.
