Resident Evil 6 is not a terrible game, but a mediocre one.
I liked it for what it is, and as an action game, it is pretty great. I found it fun to use the new movement mechanics to roll forward, dodge left or right, and shoot while lying on the ground. I think Resident Evil 6 gives off the feeling of the Resident Evil CGI films that I loved, and the movement definitely contributes to that. If you love the movement and get used to it, Resident Evil 6's mercenaries can be the best in the series, as well.
The story is one of the weakest aspects of this game, but I think it is not so bad if you play all four campaigns. It seems to me that based on achievement statistics, posts I've read, and people I know, most don't even fully finish the story and quit after a few campaigns. While the main villain is pretty lame and the game has some boring moments, I found it to be entertaining for the most part. It contains plenty of callbacks to the previous games, and it was nice being able to view different perspectives and see how each of the campaigns intertwine. Additionally, each of the campaigns had its own personality, atmosphere, and weapons, which I liked. Out of the four campaigns, I liked Jake's the most, and I feel that it is a waste of potential not letting him return in the current sequels.
Apart from the gameplay and story, I think co-op-wise it is quite fun and is the best way to enjoy the game. It is not as good as Resident Evil 5's co-op, but it is still fun, and a far better experience than playing alone. Despite fixing a lot of bugs, a few still linger, like FPS-related softlocks and not being able to let my partner through a couple of doors. The UI can be confusing for some, but personally, I do not think it is that difficult, especially if you know some shortcuts and have good keybinds in place.
As an action and co-op game, I would still recommend it, but those looking for a good story and a survival-horror experience will likely be disappointed. As my girlfriend says, it is a Resident Evil 6/10.
