Resident Evil 5 was the first game in the series I finished completely back when it came out on the Xbox360, so, yes there is a bit of nostalgia tied to this game for me. That is not to say that this game is without its flaws. Lets touch up on those first because I believe that these are rather miniscule compared to the game as a whole, which I do adore. First, this piss filter. Very common on games of this era, but this game may take the cake for the most staining on the eyes. Which is a shame because the game really doesn't look too bad by modern standards, but the coloring is just plain wrong. Second, it's a bit buggy. It's an older game, and I didn't really experience a whole lot of issues other than lag here and there in single player, but I have had graphics clipping issues in some areas which distracted from immersion. All that aside, this is a very fun and action oriented Resident Evil entry. Taking from the blueprint of 4, Resident Evil 5 really amps up the action, shooting and quick time events. I personally think it does it well, I know that it's a bit of a departure from previous entries, but you can still have a rip-roaring good time in single player or in co-op. Sound design is perfectly eerie for me, it hits the right notes of nostalgia and creepiness, fitting the set and setting well. Story isn't amazing, and particularly poor for an RE entry but we don't need to get into that as I'm sure everyone knows about it by now. Controls take from RE4 but made a little bit smoother, taking walking while aiming with it was a huge improvement from the original games. Gameplay is a fun loop of shooting and solving puzzles, with much less emphasis on survival as the game is pretty enemy heavy. Some see that as a con, but I found it a pretty fun time back in 2009 and now. The graphics, like stated before, have the piss filter which really washes out the color palette quite a bit. If it weren't for that, the game doesn't look terrible. Environments feel large, foliage looks okay, shadows also look pretty good for a game of its vintage. Character models look pretty good too, particularly Chris (speaking as a gay man). Especially in that leather outfit. Very nice. And that is why it receives a recommended rating for me.
