It's really hard to review REPLACED because it checks a lot of the boxes for the things I usually like: the cyberpunk-y aesthetic and setting, the nearly post-apocalyptic environments, alternate history etc. I liked it A LOT, but it has an equal quantity of good things to praise and bad things to criticize. The Good: - 10/10 Art Direction with 2.5D Graphics and photorealistic Lighting, VFX etc. - 10/10 Cinematography and Framing - A good amount of effort has been put into the worldbuilding and setting of this world - Amazing environments - Stylish and satisfying combat - A serviceable plot with okay characters - The scripted chase and stealth sequences were great - The (3, arguably 5) Boss Fights were also great - 10/10 Soundtrack and Sound Design The Bad: - Those amazing VFX sometimes get in the way of platforming. After failing the same section once or twice you get the hang of it, but otherwise it did sometimes feel frustrating to fail certain parts because I was certain something that would damage me wasn't anywhere close to me. Arguably a skill issue on my side. - The 2.5D perspective is initially great, but it does get in the way of clarity during combat sections. I sometimes found it hard to tell which enemies would jump from the background into the actual fight. - After the introduction of armored enemies, the fact that they overlap during combat becomes extremely annoying. Trying to hit an armored enemy and an unarmored one at the same time just leads to your attack bouncing off the armored one. Disengaging and baiting out the armored one becomes mandatory, which sometimes makes the (usually very smooth) combat a little clunky. - Another thing that makes the combat clunky is how easy it is for enemies to stunlock you at the later stages of the game. When a Tank and a bunch of shield guys, snipers and assassins all jump you at the same time the only thing you can do is spam your dodge button. Most enemies back off when you tear someone's armor off though, which is to be appreciated. - The game is EXTREMELY slow and almost never picks up the pace. It took me roughly 9 hours to beat the game and I would't be surprised if 3 of those hours were spent walking between side quests (that reward you with very, sometimes, barely noticeable rewards) and the other 3 were spent doing the really easy platforming. - One of the Bosses that you meet TWICE has absolutely ZERO buildup. You don't hear anything about him, he has no direct connection to the protagonist or the side characters, all things considered it's just an (admittedly evil) man doing his job. - You can find/"unlock" songs for your portable device but you can't listen to them while walking around, what???? Anyway, I liked the game A LOT and the things I criticized never really ruined the experience, just annoyed me in the moment. If you're into cyberpunk as a genre (the 1982 Bladerunner type, not Cyberpunk 2077), stylish combat, ruin-like environments with basic platforming and puzzles and alternate history, buy the game.
Ламповый кибер-панк платформер в пиксель-арте с вайбами бегущего по лезвию. Довольно трогательный сюжет и персонажи. Рекомендую пройти любителям high tech low life
I haven’t felt this way about a game in years.
Replaced genuinely reminded me why I love video games. For the past few years, I’ve played a lot of games. I enjoyed some, finished a few, and then simply moved on. Nothing really stayed with me. Nothing gave me that feeling I used to have when I was younger, where I could completely lose myself in a game and still think about it long after turning it off. Replaced somehow gave me that feeling again. By the time the credits started rolling, I was just sitting there feeling happy, sad, empty, satisfied, and genuinely grateful that I got to experience it.

The visuals and music are incredible
The art is easily a 10/10 for me. Calling it simply "good pixel art" honestly doesn't do it justice. The amount of detail in the environments, lighting, animations, backgrounds, colors, and tiny visual elements is insane. There were so many moments where I stopped moving completely just to look at the environment for a while. The soundtrack is just as good. I ended up adding pretty much the entire thing to my Spotify playlist. My favorite track has to be the Yo-Yo theme, "Milky Way." Standing in front of that machine, surrounded by all the lights and buttons while that song was playing, genuinely made me feel like I was floating somewhere in space. The sound design throughout the entire game is fantastic too. Every chapter seems to have exactly the right music for its mood and moment. It adds so much to the atmosphere.

The story hit me harder than I expected
The mystery surrounding REACH immediately got my attention. You spend a lot of the game trying to understand who you are, what happened to you, and what you are slowly becoming. What really got me emotionally, though, was watching REACH slowly become more human. During the final fight, especially throughout its different phases, you start seeing fragments of memories and emotional breaking points connected to things like: Love. Hope. Friendship. His relationships with humans. Those moments really got to me. The relationship between REACH and Tempest is probably one of my favorite parts of the entire game. Their conversations after every chapter were something I always looked forward to. Sometimes they were funny, sometimes wholesome, sometimes emotional, but they always made the characters feel more real. I started the game because I loved its dark sci-fi atmosphere. Eventually, I realized I was continuing because I genuinely cared about these two characters. There is also a betrayal later in the story that I obviously won't spoil.
It made me genuinely angry and heartbroken at the same time.
If a game can make me feel that strongly toward one of its characters, then the writing clearly did its job.

The combat is simple, but it feels so good
The combat isn't extremely deep or complicated, but honestly, I didn't need it to be. The gunplay feels great. The shockwave is satisfying. The finishers feel brutal and impactful. Everything has this really nice sense of weight and rhythm to it. The different Corps having their own fighting styles also helps keep encounters interesting and adds a little extra challenge. Some of my favorite moments were when the combat and cinematic presentation blended together. There were several sequences where it genuinely felt like I was playing through an animated movie.

There are a few small issues
I do wish there was a little more combat variety, especially toward the later parts of the game. A few additional mechanics, enemy types, or abilities could have helped make some encounters feel fresher. I also ran into a couple of glitches, mostly involving stairs and ladders. Nothing serious. Nothing that ruined the experience. But they were noticeable. Those are honestly very small complaints compared to everything the game does right.

That ending...
The ending left me feeling strangely empty and satisfied at the same time. Sad. Emotional. Peaceful. I finished it and just sat there for a while staring at the screen, thinking about everything that had happened. I can't remember the last time a game made me do that.

Final thoughts
If you're looking for a game where the art, music, story, characters, and atmosphere are the main focus, please play Replaced. Don't go into it expecting hundreds of mechanics or an insanely complicated combat system. That's not what makes this game special. What makes it special is the journey. The relationship between REACH and Tempest. The quiet conversations between all the violence. The environments. The music. The little emotional moments that slowly build until you suddenly realize how attached you've become to these characters. I don't really know what the general opinion about the game is. And honestly, I don't care. What I experienced felt personal. Replaced made me genuinely excited about playing a video game again, and that's something I haven't felt in a very long time.
I'll remember this one.
Fantastic and beautiful game. Will be thinking about this one for quite a while.
I’ll admit right away that Replaced is a gorgeous game. The pixel art is jaw-dropping, and the cyberpunk-inspired backgrounds create an atmosphere that feels alive and cinematic. The story itself had some strong moments, and I appreciated the dystopian setting and narrative beats that tried to explore deeper themes. For a while, I was genuinely impressed by how immersive the world looked and sounded. Unfortunately, the gameplay just didn’t hold up for me. Combat quickly became repetitive, and after a few hours, I found myself going through the motions rather than feeling challenged or engaged. The mechanics never evolved in a meaningful way, and the repetition drained my interest. This genre isn’t really my playstyle, and I couldn’t connect with it despite the stunning presentation. In the end, Replaced felt like a beautiful experience trapped inside a shallow loop, and I walked away more bored than invested.
Had this wishlisted for some time and finally purchased during most recent summer sale. Overall an incredible game for what it is. I am not usually one to play platformers / side scrollers, but the story, visuals, soundtrack - virtually everything - are so well done that I am VERY glad I played. Dialogue is simple at times, but replaced does a great job of letting the player access as much or as little world building info as they desire. Combat is simple but fun. Puzzles are fun and generally not overly challenging. Overall, I loved this little game and highly recommend taking the 12 or so hours to play.
