About
REAPER'S ISLE is an open-world, stealth horror game created by a team of students at UW-Stout and Berklee College of Music.
You receive a concerning message from your daughter, a paleontologist stationed on a remote island. After making your way to the isle, you discover horrifying phantoms from the ancient world. Restore power across the map to gain access to the main laboratory where you’ll discover the fate of your missing daughter.
EVADE
Avoid phantom monsters while solving basic puzzles to restore power across the island at watchtowers. By hiding in bushes, or tall grass and moving carefully, you can avoid confrontation. Throw rocks to distract and maneuver skillfully around the phantoms. You must be cautious, as the phantoms will absorb your soul if they touch you, causing you to restart at your last checkpoint.
DISCOVER
Explore the open world environment in first-person perspective. Study plants and creatures to uncover their mysterious origins and behavioral traits to help you survive. Discover logs and signs of former destruction to uncover secrets about the prior island's inhabitants.
UNCOVER
Finally, after restoring power, venture into the lab in the island's depths where you’ll discover the fate of your missing daughter.

Voice acting is created using Murf AI due to the inability to find real voice actors while working on the project. Trust me, we tried! We were originally told we'd be provided voice actors, but when that fell through, we put out memos to our whole college, contacted groups, strangers, etc., and because we wanted proper representation for African American characters, we didn't feel right voicing it ourselves. We chose Murf AI because they work with real paid voice actors, which we felt was the closest morally acceptable choice, as we could not pay anyone else to be a voice actor online because this was a college-made game, and that was not allowed. If anyone ever wants to volunteer to voice act for Reaper's Isle, please reach out to us on our website, as we will always be a human-prioritized game development group.

В целом в этой игре весьма неплохая графика. Интересный сюжет на часик другой. Вопросы возникли разве что по поводу пролагов анимаций, но это не критично. В игре полно настроек графики на любой вкус и железо. В целом я могу рекомендовать.
Yeah, I know that this is a student project. I can't be too harsh on it, it probably had a pretty limited dev time, limited assets, etc. There's a couple nice things here though. The game is very... for lack of a better word, purple, which I personally found to be a pretty cool color palette that gave this a sense of style. The concept of ghost dinosaurs is pretty unique, and they did actually try to give this short game a kind-of-interesting villain entity. None of this makes the game actually good though, and make no mistake - Reaper's Isle is fundamentally broken and not fun at all. The intented gameplay loop here is to stealth around the island by crouching in bushes and grass to sneak around ghostly dinosaurs as you restore power to various towers and unlock the central lab in order to rescue your daughter, a researcher on the island. In theory, sounds fine for what this is. In practice? Yeah the stealth just doesn't work at all. You will get caught, you will die, again and again and again. There's no indicator that tells you whether you're hidden, just a proximity indicator that tells you if a ghost dinosaur is nearby, so the entire thing is trial and error - or it would be, if it wasn't ridiculously easy to outrun nearly everything in the game with no effort whatsoever. It is almost genuinely impossible to get caught if you just run around. Trying to engage with the systems of this game just makes it harder and more frustrating, and it's not even clear what systems there even are. You can crouch in the grass and bushes, sure, but there's also these rocks you can throw. Do they hurt enemies? They didn't seem to when I tried. Does the noise distract them? It didn't seem to do anything when I played. There's also these flowers that make noise when you go past them, but they never seemed to attract enemies like the game warned you they could with the exception of one "puzzle" where it was mandatory to do so. Even the achievements are bugged, I only have the achievement for starting the game, when I did turn on all three towers and complete the game, both of which have designated achievements that are still locked. Not like I'm exactly going for 100% with this thing, but still. There's a semblance of a story here, told through various Resident Evil style lore notes scattered around the island facilities, and these admittedly paint a bit of an interesting picture - but my god, any kind of investment in the narrative goes right into the dumpster the second you hear the voices. For whatever boneheaded reason, rather than do voices themselves or pay some rando on fiverr, the two voices in the game (the protagonist and the daughter) have downright laughable TTS voices with zero inflection, emotion, or sense of urgency. Yeah, yeah, student project; but are you telling me that there was NO ONE these devs knew who could do any kind of voice? Even amateur or bad voice acting would be more charming than this. There's no real reason to play this, I don't even know why I played this. If you want to be chased around by dinosaurs, go play Dino Crisis, that's on Steam now. Maybe you just like purple. Me too. In any case, I hope these devs passed their class, but this is not a good game.

crap.
It's an interesting game however, the game was incredibly lagging and made me nauseated with in a few minutes of playing. This also made the game difficult to play.
Honestly, can't get past the AI sounding voice acting. It ruins so much for me. Pacing seems fairly off and the tutorial was pretty pathetic. I think this game has a lot of potential but needs to listen to the reviews before it can become something.
Generic and unpolished

it's...okay, the game is a little slow but also throws you into sneaking around the map almost straight away is a little tedious. the game does have quite a bit of lag (or sluggish/blurry) when reaching the next objective which game can make people nauseous. i had to stop playing due to that. i wouldn't recommend this game to others if they have motion sickness, also feels a little unfinished
