You can change your talents by changing the blessing colors. Fair price. オーソドックスな作りの2DACT。特徴としては、主人公の髪の毛の色を対応する女神像で祈ることにより変化させ、その色に応じた能力を獲得できるというもの。価格もボリュームを考えると高くないが、セールの方が良いかもしれない。 Mini-video >> https://twitter.com/hhfcurator/status/1672271066373447681
Nice platformer/metroidvania game made by a single developer. Controls with an Xbox controller felt really good, precision jumping and timing was not a problem. Thoughtful level design, good amount of backtracking but does not feel like a chore because the individual levels are not huge. There are new game elements introduced gradually as you progress through each area. Dashing, double-jumping, etc. Bosses are a bit tough but, in true old-school platformer style, once you figure out the attack/defend pattern, they can all be defeated. Throughout the game you can use different "flames" which effect your life and strength (and ability to warp). There is quite a bit of story, reading it all and playing to both endings took me about 4 hours or so. I unlocked 15 out of 25 achievements in the process of playing through it naturally, not achievement hunting.
UPDATE: Changing my rating to "Recommended". Latest updates add some QoL features that make the gameplay a bit more fluid. The game’s broken engine and bland aesthetics hide a decent yet optional story most won’t even bother with. A shame because the idea would probably work better in a different form. Not much is shown in the beginning in terms of story. In one moment, you're a skull soaring out of a pool of bones, and in the next, you're a skeleton holding a scythe. Every piece of story can be obtained through talking statues and rare characters. You won't understand anything if you ignore them, but the words can't be sped up or skipped, so you'll have to watch the entire thing every time you activate a statue. The amount of text is insane, especially when you defeat a boss and they start their unskippable rant with walls of text. Despite issues that I'll explain later, it's odd to devote so much time and effort to the story and then hide it behind optional content. The game is a typical action platformer, with enemies to kill and platforms to jump on. The double-jump and dash make things much easier. What distinguishes the game from others are flames. For example, one fire heals you and reduces your attack strength, while the other allows you to activate portals. Because these skills contribute nothing to your platforming abilities and stages are designed to be completed regardless of the fire, you can just choose the one you prefer. While the game appears to have an open world in which you may walk wherever you like, it is actually fairly linear, with levels trapped behind a wall. The game is divided into chapters, each of which consists of multiple stages. To unlock the next chapter, you must complete the chapter by defeating the boss and acquire the required quantity of souls, which are gathered from defeated enemies. The enemy variety is limited but decent. The same can’t be said for the difficulty which is ridiculous. You will either catch them in a stagger loop or they’ll take half of your half points. Since you move slow and don’t have a dodge move, you get hurt even when you jump out of the way. While dash might be similar to a dodge move, it never works. Sometimes you get hit, perform the dodge, and die when you finish the dodge animation. Another odd design choice is that the dash has a delay before you can use it again. The bosses are a mixed bag. Some can be exploited and some suffer from underdeveloped mechanics. Again, the absence of a dodge move makes these battles unbearable. The visuals and gaming mechanics are the game's weak points. The game's basic look and old-school aesthetic make it unappealing to look at. Colors are also overly similar. Without the minimap in the lower right corner, it would be spot levers or other things of importance. The enemies are a little better, but this makes the design even worse because they appear to be out of place. At the end of the day, visuals are irrelevant if the game is enjoyable to play. Unfortunately, the engine has flaws. The traction on moving platforms varies depending on whether they are moving or stationary. When immobile, you slide across surfaces as though they were made of ice. When you try to execute a double jump exactly next to a wall, the character gets stuck, so you must move away from it every time you want to jump on a higher platform. Plus falling through the floor, enemies that hit you through walls, clip through environment and don’t die when thrown into lava, boxes you can push and block the path forward, cheap traps that kill you instantly, etc. The stage design is poor, but understandable given the limited budget. Despite the fact that chapters have different textures, each stage plays and looks the same. There are always levers to be pushed or traps to avoid with enemies in the middle. The worst part is the absurdly large number of slow-moving platforms that go up and down. This entails a lot of waiting for it to come down and being frustrated when you fall off. Furthermore, sometimes you don’t even know there’s a rising platform until you spot it moving on the minimap. Stages also have fake walls that become visible once you jump into them. Since it’s impossible to distinguish these fake from real wall, the game marks them with a floating soul. If you want all the achievements, you’ll have to find every chest. None of the achievements are missable. The only ones that require more work are for defeating each boss with a different flame. This can be a hassle because some wait at the end of regular stages. I gave the game a fair shot and really intended to finish it. Sadly, instead of new mechanics, the game introduces new methods to ruin the last ounces of fun.
Reaper of Immortals released a week or so ago, if you missed it. It's got some nice retro art, plenty of level variety, boss fights, and tons of lore. It could benefit from more polish (control, art, writing) but has a lot to offer. Reaper of Immortals is a decent action platformer with switchable characters. While it lacks polish, its core gameplay and concept is solid and there's plenty of lore to dig into. This is a nice game that the developer seems keen to keep updating! :)
Reaper of Immortals is a playable level-based 2D platformer that suffers from some jank, which may be to do with the engine it was made in. Its the sort of solo dev project you might expect to find free on itch.io when exploring indie games. As far as that sort of thing goes, it really isn't that bad, but most of the games even on there are not the sort of thing I could recommend vs. the plethora of other games out there on Steam that feel more fluid and fun to play. I think it takes a certain kind of person hooked on raw B-grade stuff to play and enjoy something like this. The dev has been very responsive to address bug reports, it's clearly a labour of love. Reaper of Souls is "OK" but I don't recommend it. I went through the first 8 or so levels (part-way through world 2). I liked that I could dash from the start of the game ..and multiple times while airborne! Level design was decent enough honestly, so was the music. I've encountered similar games that just put one crappy 20 second loop in, fortunately not the case here. The melee enemies could be dispatched just by walking up to them and mashing attack, because you swing faster than them and when you hit them you stun/interrupt their ability to hit back. This renders their blocking ability/attack patterns impotent in most situations. I acquired a new attack after beating the first boss. It isn't clear to me why I would use it though. I might be missing something, but it is slower than my regular attack and deals less damage. Some specific examples of jank would include: -Getting stuck on walls when you jump against them, it stops your jump from reaching its natural height. -Being unable to down+jump through a platform if you are too near to a wall, even if you are not even close to touching it. -Had a dialogue get stuck one time (It stopped recognising my input to go through the text, possibly because I was moving and jumping when initiating that dialogue, hard to say what triggered it). It wasn't a big deal to reload my last checkpoint however. -Occasionally you'll see some white lines through the screen like screen tearing. Its only there for a brief moment and fairly uncommon that It wasn't really a problem. -When I beat the first boss, it had begun casting a spell against me. I was safely moving out of the way of this attack, however, upon beating the boss, it started talking to me and I was unable to move during that dialogue. ..The bosses attack was allowed to finish and kill me. Not a big deal, as you respawn close, and the fight was not difficult.
To be a game made for only a guy, is pretty good and fun. Each level is pretty much a maze that you've to solve, with a few secret passages here and there. It also has a good and long story behind, but luckily you can skip most of it if you don't care about it. My biggest gripe are some bosses which can be pretty hard, but not for the good reasons. Wonky hit boxes and the fact that their attacks can keep hitting you when they're talking to you after you beat them will made you lose a few times. It took me a couple hours to finish, but the grind needed for the achievements will take you a bit more. EDIT: The developer fixed the bug with the bosses still hitting you after the fight
Fun game i love it
