Forever beta. Don't waste your time or money on this.

It looks interesting, although to switch between terrain types there should be tabs for each terrain type instead of having to scroll through the entire list. I also missed being able to simulate watery terrain such as puddles or river areas, if there was that option I didn't see it.

This creator is VERY COOL and has a lot of potential. The fog of war is particularly neat as are the live effects. The interface takes some getting used to and I hope they continue to iterate on it, but with some help documentation, you can get around okay. It's a great proof-of-concept, but it's not ready for use at your table. Here's why. 1. Limited assets. I need more tokens that look closer to my characters and a full bestiary of monsters. That's a monster ask (no pun intended) and I know the dev intends to allow custom asset imports. There are some asset downloads but they're not the sort of thing I'm looking for. 2. Clunky controls. This may not change, but I think the dev would benefit a lot from trying out DungeonDraft (a 2D map maker) to get a sense of quickly making content while leaving the camera controls to the keyboard. 3. Clunky interface. It could use some search capabilities or sorting that amounts to more than scrolling and unchecking certain categories. I'll be watching this game with great interest as it develops. Hopefully the dev can get some more assistance with asset creators and produce something more robust.
While I don't have much time pushed into this program, I have experimented with various things in it and found pro's and cons. Many of which the pro's outweigh the cons. Pros: - The software/game is completely free, which is incredible given the amount of content the software has. - The graphics are wonderful. I love that the tree's move realistically as if a breeze is flowing through it. - It comes with realistic sounds such as rain falling, Environmental noises such as jungles, forests, beach waves, hail falling, etc. Also includes music like if you're at a tavern or in the heat of battle. - The map is huge, so you can make a full scale city/town with as much detail as you want. - There is plenty of items to choose from when making buildings, forests, caves, etc. - Some things have action effects like stun, heal, magic cast rings or elemental effects. Cons: While I really love this application, the hardest part for me is the controls. There is a help guide provided in the upper right corner of the screen regarding how the controls are mapped but often times when I try to use them such as attempting to grab an object by holding down CTRL, the application sometimes wont acknowledge my request unless I exit the map completely and go back in. Other times when I have an object and try to just move it left to right, the object will go up in the air or down into the ground. I've testing by holding 'shift' key as well but still manage to have problems (it could be just me and I might just need to play with the controls more). I think if the controls can be more simplified, it might not be as confusing or difficult to create something. Instead of using CTRL to select something, maybe a right click of the mouse on the item (regardless of what the object is) that pops up a directional icon or mini menu for things like resizing similar to when clicking on a character brings up about 5-8 different options.
A great virtual table top platform for building maps for role playing games.
I wish nothing but the best for Blake, I am sorry to hear about the kickstarter. This is an AMAZING idea and a great builder, i only wish for more people to see it. If Blake is still thinking about this somewhere, i wish nothing but the best of luck no matter what your decision is with this game.
