You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Grab your spear and brave the industrial wastes, hunting enough food to survive, but be wary— other, bigger creatures have the same plan... and slugcats look delicious.

I can appreciate what this game is trying to do, but it does it in a way that I just can't find fun. The main issue I have with this game is the fact that you can't take your time traversing the environments. They all seem to require a degree carefulness, which means you have to take it slow. But at the same time, there is a timer that kills you if it runs out, so you kind of can't be slow. As well as this, the environments are all quite confusing, and combined with the fact the game gives you no direction and the fact you need food to use the checkpoints, you quite litterally have explore and take your time. It's a conflicting gameplay point that causes this game to lose a lot of it's appeal. The other thing I dislike about this game is how most enemies can instantly kill you. While you can (sort of) fight back, it's not effective enough to be viable at all. From what I could understand, the game wants you to avoid enemies, but once more, this conflicts with the time aspect of the gameplay. Sometimes enemies will stay in the same place for minutes, not allowing you to progress without being chased by them. As someone who plays games for fun, this is the counter-strike of single player games. By that, I mean that you have to be constantly aware of everything going on at all times, and it's just exausting and annoying at best.
The game is straight up unfair, not hard, unfair, and ridiculous. The controls are clumsy af: your character doesn't respond to your inputs. The camera is ass too; you go through an area, and there's a f*ing enemy camping for you, literally no way to react humanly. Everything instakills you. You have no guidance at all; you're thrown into a lethal world to play the victim game (they call it "prey"). I really REALLY tried to like this game, trust me, but it's just impossible to like unfairness. I love difficult games; that's my style: hard platformers, souls-like, etc., but unfair games like this one are just not my style.

slugcat is cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do recommend. This is very good. One of the best ambiances of any game I’ve ever played
Currently in the pissed off stage of this game. Got my karma maxed and KNOW I need either to find something or the next shelter but it's real easy to hit the timer on a blind playthrough while exploring. That death drops my karma which I assumed I need to keep at cap for something but is a really annoying inconvenience than just doing a corpse run. People say follow the stupid worm thing but so far it just kinda teleports everywhere so it isn't really helping a whole lot. If I have to stand still to trigger his guidance then ♥♥♥♥ me on the timer then.
Now that i have 100 hours of experience i can say. This is a MASTERPIECE of a game, the art, the lore, the mechanics, i love it. BUT, the game is not meant for everyone, its very punishing, with alot of backtracking and sometimes situations that seem very unfair. Also the game gives near-zero clues on how to progress. And so i must say, if you like very difficult games, with lore you must find by yourself and complex movement mechanics this is your game, if on the contrary you like more lineal games with less difficulty and a more clear story (which is totally fine) then i cannot recommend it. 10/10
