while not my favorite one of these the story is very good if you dive into all the endings. that said i found the music a bit too repetitive and was disappointed by the total lack of voices. the scenes also loose something when key moments are shown in promotional , tho again the writing was worthwhile . if the art appeals to you i would recommend it while on sale.
Rain and the Wolf is a branching BL VN loosely (very loosely) based on Little Red Riding Hood. The MC Rain is the Red Riding Hood analogue; a young man who helps his potionmaker father out by collecting ingredients. One day Rain ends up injured and stranded and is rescued by the love interest, Zero, a werewolf with an unsettling resemblance to Rain's childhood friend Ten, who passed away violently years earlier. I liked the emotional dynamic between Rain and Zero--Rain is very acerbic and basically refuses to be honest about his feelings ever, while Zero comes off as a cheerful open book (though is a bit more complex than that). There are some decent hurt/comfort vibes to the story that I really enjoyed too. After a while I got annoyed by how much the story seemed to harp on about how short and weak Rain is physically compared to how big and strong Zero is. If you're into that you'll probably be over the moon for this, but unfortunately I'm mostly indifferent so it just got old to me after the first couple times lol The art's really nice, as is the music. The GUI I felt clashed with the art style a bit, but not so much to be too jarring. But overall this was a pretty nice VN. The good endings are heartwarming, the bad endings are harrowing. Keep in mind the warnings on the page for this and the patch; it's not explicitly stated outside the game but it might also be relevant to mention that
the assault in the one bad ending with it is indeed by Zero against Rain, rather than a separate character
--I know that one is something that even people who are ok with this content existing generally might want to avoid. The art is very pretty and I love fairytales! I'll get to it later but leaving a review in advance because noombers. Praying for the DLC to get here sooner!
I'm always up for fairytale inspired visual novels. I like that there were multiple endings as well, ranging from happily ever after to more disturbing. One bad end is particularly dark, but I do appreciate the ability to toggle dark content on and off. I kind of wish I would've left the happiest end for last. I feel like it would've made me appreciate it more, though I enjoyed playing through all the different endings and can appreciate how Rain (the main character) and Zero (love interest) end up at that point. The art was very pretty, and I liked the character designs.
Very gorgeous art and story! I got every ending, and overall I think it's a really cool spin on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale! I felt so bad getting anything but the good ending haha
One of the rarest moment where I don't mind seeing all the endings, even the bad one. And oh boy I wasn't disappointed.
This VN had everything i want, - an adorable beast boy(I ended up as total Zero Fangirl in the end...) - some really lovely, as well as really bad Endings - lovely Art - a soothing Soundtrack - lovely MC bantering again(pretty much a trademark for Ebihimes BL works, as i believe and really like) This time i am much happier with its Length compared to Beneath a bleeding Moon, since i wasn´t able to kill it as quickly as that latter mentioned one. Also the much darker tone suits it just perfectly...I really love a bit darker VNs, so the topics really were enticing for me, fairytale topics also much apprechiated! Especially can recommend playing it with the patch. 10/10 on my personal fun scale!
Love it.
