great game
I'm somewhat surprised to report that Project Thea seems to be turning out all right. I played the demo, right at launch. Calling myself disappointed would be a spectacular understatement, it felt like they'd thrown out most of the charm for a new setting that didn't have any of the depth or whimsy of the previous two games, and offered little more than visual variation. I'm pleased to say that isn't the case any more. This is a solid game. The biggest thing for me is the writing finally feels like it's closing the distance. I'm still not in love with the setting itself, but this feels like the Thea devs at work again, though it's a more thoughtful, melancholic take - The world's gone to hell, after all. The early game also isn't absolute butchery on normal difficulty, which was the second issue I had. You're still very vulnerable, and I suspect certain class/species combinations perform better or worse, but the sting of failure is softened by the fact that they added a meta-progression system, so no run is truly wasted, even if it feels like the game is out to get you. Visually, I can't really articulate why, but everything feels much improved. There's still a dire lack of variety for some alloy types and classes, but that's something that will come in time, and hopefully they'll open up to modders, if they haven't already. Finally, supplies are no longer an albatross around the neck of every single run. When your party is small, and you're making a point to run lean, they'll last for a good, long time, even if you don't upgrade your production of them back at the settlement. I can't speak for anyone else, but those were the main things holding the demo back, and to my eye, they seem to have listened and made significant improvements. The only real gripe I still have is the percentage-based skill challenge system. It's literally down to the roll of a single die, with your primary currency for improving your odds (by adding companions) being Energy, which will be in short supply in the early game. Something a little more interactive or nuanced might be nice, but the complaint is a fairly small one. You'll only really feel the pain when starting fresh, or if your party has been chewed up by a hostile encounter. That's it for me. I can honestly recommend the game as it is, with the usual early access caveats, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take things from here.
Abgeschafft.
If you played the original Thea games or similar games to this one, you will probably love Project Thea. I love the fact that it's different every time you play. One thing happened in an event last time and even though you choose the same path, you might get a different outcome. It's like a box of chocolates with a few pieces of hidden poop, you never know what you're going to get!
Enjoying it so far, still figuring out mechanisms and such.
An interesting early access. I look forward the fully released game. It's a bit early to call it great, but the potential is here.
good game, good developer communication.
Really enjoying it so far
Fajne pomysły i rodowite klimaty.
The mystery of 3 will soon be.
