Project: Sword Art is a casual anime-themed puzzle game developed by BOA and 430Games and published by 430Games. The title combines match-3 gameplay with light RPG progression and collection mechanics, creating an experience that focuses on accessibility and steady rewards rather than deep strategic complexity. From the moment players begin, the game presents itself as a colorful and relaxing adventure designed for fans of puzzle games and anime-inspired visuals. The game's most noticeable strength is its presentation. Character artwork and visual effects play a major role in establishing the game's identity, with vibrant anime-style illustrations serving as a constant reward throughout progression. The bright colors and appealing designs help maintain player interest, especially for those who enjoy collecting unlockables and discovering new artwork. While the graphics are relatively simple from a technical standpoint, they effectively support the game's casual nature and create an inviting atmosphere that remains enjoyable over extended play sessions. At its core, Project: Sword Art revolves around familiar match-3 puzzle mechanics. Players align symbols to clear the board, earn rewards, and advance through various stages. The controls are easy to understand, allowing newcomers to jump in immediately without a steep learning curve. Rather than introducing complicated systems, the game focuses on refining a proven formula and supplementing it with progression elements that encourage continued engagement. This straightforward approach makes it accessible to a broad audience, including players who may not normally spend time with puzzle games. The progression system adds an extra layer of motivation beyond simply completing puzzles. As players advance, they unlock content, improve their standing, and gain access to additional rewards. These RPG-inspired mechanics provide a sense of growth that helps the gameplay feel more rewarding. Although these systems are relatively light compared to dedicated role-playing games, they successfully give players goals to pursue and help prevent the experience from feeling completely repetitive during its early and middle stages. Another positive aspect of the game is its pacing. Project: Sword Art is well-suited for short play sessions, making it easy to enjoy in small bursts throughout the day. The gameplay loop is straightforward and constantly delivers rewards, ensuring that players rarely feel like their time is being wasted. This design philosophy reinforces the game's identity as a casual title that prioritizes relaxation and entertainment over intense challenge or competition. However, the simplicity that makes the game approachable can also work against it. Players looking for deep mechanics, advanced puzzle systems, or significant strategic variety may find the experience somewhat repetitive after extended play. The match-3 formula remains largely unchanged throughout much of the game, and the additional progression features are not substantial enough to completely transform the gameplay. As a result, long-term engagement may depend heavily on a player's appreciation for the visual presentation and collection aspects. The RPG and simulation-inspired features provide structure and a sense of advancement, but they never overshadow the puzzle gameplay itself. This balance works well for casual audiences who prefer uncomplicated systems, though players seeking meaningful customization or complex character development may be left wanting more. The game clearly targets those who value accessibility and steady progression rather than depth and challenge. Overall, Project: Sword Art delivers a pleasant and visually appealing casual gaming experience. It successfully combines match-3 puzzle mechanics with light progression systems and anime-inspired aesthetics to create an enjoyable package for its intended audience. While it lacks the innovation and depth needed to stand out among the best puzzle-RPG hybrids, it remains entertaining thanks to its attractive presentation, accessible gameplay, and rewarding progression structure. Fans of casual puzzle games and anime artwork are likely to find plenty to enjoy, even if the experience does not significantly push the genre forward. Rating: 6/10
