First things first... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ those enemies are terryfing. Anyways, this game does a really well executed albeit rudimentary job of teaching me some of the basic ideas of what I remember being 7th grade algebra. I really enjoyed the setting that players will be dropped in and I imagine it would look amazing if I didn't have to run it on lower settings to play. That being said, it's not a bad thing that this game has stunning visuals. If anything, I imagine that it would do a better job of keeping kids attention with all the fascinating barren landscape that Mars(?) had to offer. That being said, I don't feel that everything was perfect. I completely recognize that as a one man team that it's difficult to be able to make everything work but I felt that the player's speed and general mobility was a little too slow at times and pulls me out of the experience once I flip my "rover" into some terrarin and have to walk for a few minutes to the other station or reload a save. Other issues were rough-around-the-edges collision detection between terrarin and vehicles as well as the quick-save not saving much other than position. Overall, I am excited by what this game has to offer but it's got a long road to completion and I can't wait to see what the full release looks like.
This game is one good idea (teaching Algebra) a bundle of questionable decisions. First of all, I'd question the decision to target an FPS at middle-school children. The Algebra angle is a good idea, but the murdering robots: not so much. Maybe if it was presented ascartoony, but here, the faux SPace Marine look just comes across as too mature focused. Then, almost every gameplay mechanic is implemented poorly: Aiming is not intuitive. Equiping weapons is not intuitive. Picking up ammo is cumbersom and time consuming for no good reason. The interface for interacting with screens is horrible because it asks you to make fine motor skill movements while the view is constantly moving because of the overly animated idle state. The visuals are well done, I'm not sure if they are from the author or an asset store, but the game itself is not even playable in its current state (in my opinion). I would chalk most of these mistakes up to inexperience. This has potential, but as a "game", I still wouldn't bother with it for entertainment over academic/hobbyist interest. I hope the developer polishes this up to a more playable state.
I love the concept of the game and I enjoy playing the game a bunch. I love the hell out of math so this was a no brainer for me. I do have some stuff to say, two of them may be a bug im not sure and the rest are just aspects of the game that could be better. So what I think is a bug, when I open the game it opens up my VR stuff and it doesnt even show anything in the headset, I was trying to watch a show and play the game but because it opened up the VR stuff it for some reason crashed my video, the video crashing thing happens when my VR stuff opens up no matter what game it is. Basically its being seen as a VR game even though I am using a mouse and keyboard to play. The second bug is on the main menu where the cursor isn't exactly synced with the resolution and so you have to move it offset of the button youre trying to press to use it, the problem I found was the resolution. I think the game didn't recognize my monitors native res and so it game it one that didnt exist and in the settings the res was blank, though I was able to change it to work. As for really minor complaints, the movement of the head is weird to me, when I interact with a console or whatever it does this whole bobbing and swaying thing which kept making me miss the button I was trying to press. Thats all I really have to "complain" about. I seriously do love this game so far, I can't wait to see what comes next.
