I originally read Primate Signal when it was released as a novelette e-book in 2013, but having experienced it now in visual novel form, it legitimately feels like it was always intended for this medium. The striking visuals and slightly unnerving soundtrack work extremely well with the story, making the world feel just "off" enough to draw the reader in. Like any good VN, there's a lot of waxing philosophical, but it's punctuated with enough levity and humor to remind you that only the characters are insane, not the author. For the uninitiated, Primate Signal is the perfect gateway drug to some of the Wainstop crew's weirder offerings, and for die-hard fans it's the ideal way to experience this piece that you might have missed the first time around. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK.
Simultaneously grounded and bonkers. A captivating experience about... everything. Videogames. Economics. Religion. Philosophy. Family. Isolation. The whole experience is greater than the sum of it's parts. There's a vibe to it that unexpectedly immerses you quickly. Hard to put my finger on it. Thought-provoking in a way that lingers on in your mind afterwards. Pushes at the border of your mind in a refreshing way in the style of great Indie Comics. Some subtle magic in the way it's configured. This is a piece of art. If the trailer looks appealing then you will certainly enjoy the full experience. Enjoy the ride. I did very much.
Thought provoking, deep and twizted. Absolutely stunning graphics, audio and character development so much so that I actually was physically transported into the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up world of the minds of the Wainstop gang. This work, will replace the Bible in our churches. Thank you.
I played this through late at night after a strange day, and it was a unique and compelling and affecting... story? Not sure that's even the right word for it. The art, the music, and the logic of the characters that constantly spirals inwards in straight lines all come together into something that sticks in your brain.
a miracle of a game. god bless us all
One of the most profound gaming experiences you can possibly have
It's not very often something comes along that is this unique. It has such a strong stylistic character that you feel transported to another world with the original artwork and music, not to mention the mind bending story. The time I spent in this world was totally bizarre in the best possible way. Nothing else like it.
primate signal turn on monkey mindset engaged
A game of social intrigues featuring a diverse cast and an unusual, formalistic storytelling voice, Primate Signal is not "for everyone", hehe, in the same way that not everyone will appreciate a special gift of priceless treasure granted to them by a good fairy of the forest for their minor act of hospitality. But in a way, it really is for everyone. It is a tribute to the world and everything in it: money, numbers, ideas, feelings, fun, sex, loneliness, humans, and God. While the alarming, doll-like art makes it hard to form a idealized sexual fantasy about any of the characters, the story itself is very sexual and explores a number of erotic themes--but don't worry, mom and pop, because it is still "Safe For Work." There are other games even on here that will give you climactic joy or the soft, melty feeling of romantic bliss, so don't worry--satisfaction can still be derived from this game by reading the text, using it as a codex to explore other people's perspectives and viewpoints on the world, or even just enjoying the soundtrack. The soundtrack is very good. The music is just where it needs to be, and suits the mood perfectly. BankBank did a good job on the music of the game. The only negative thing I have to say about Primate Signal is we need more Primate Signal! Let the completion of this game be not an ending, but a glorious new beginning.
An interesting and very relevant read & experience with some nice laughs and a cool art style as well. I felt this truly resonated w the "terminally online" 21st century experience and the ways in which these esoteric thought processes begin to influence the already mysterious power structures 0_0 highly recommend!
