Plunder Panic

Мало игр про пиратов. Очень мало. Спасибо за раздачу разработчикам. Хотелось бы подобного сеттинга и геймплея в одиночном варианте тоже.

TL;DR Plunder Panic is a great 2D Platformer Party Game that acts as a spiritual successor of Killer Queen, more specifically the console release "Killer Queen Black" for those who are familiar. Plunder Panic is one of my favorite party game releases of the last several years. It has everything you would want, a killer chiptune soundtrack, meaningful skill expression whilst retaining randomness in both the maps and the items, and a demo that acts as a friend's pass so only one person needs to own the game. It has support for up to 12 players (with crossplatform), and leans into the retro aesthetic by allowing NES controllers to be used with the title. The game has a campaign-style level progression for single-player, and it explains each modifier you can have in a room quite comprehensively throughout said campaign, so even if you just take it on a run for a few hours, it's still worth the price. It's absolutely fantastic to have friends over for online or off, and I would really love to see it get a cult following. If you loved KQB while it was around, this is an amazing nod to another amazing game, and it does a great job of having it's own style on top of that.

A competitive 2D team platformer, but it is single player or against friends. No lobby. It can be fun for a while and cost me no money.

[b]Recommended[/b] (with a big caveat) Plunder Panic is criminally underrated. It clearly takes Killer Queen Black as its foundation and then cranks everything up to eleven. Two teams, each with a Captain and Crew, fight to achieve one of four win conditions: hauling gold to your own chest (while stealing from the enemy), firing the central cannon three times, ramming an explosive-filled rowboat into the opposing ship, or killing the enemy Captain six times. It’s chaotic, tactical, and insanely fun. Matches escalate fast into total mayhem. Controls are tight, easy to learn, and demand quick thinking and constant adaptation. Crew members can invest gold into weapons like swords, while levels hide bonus items such as throwing axes and fuse guns that keep every match unpredictable. For the price, the amount of content is solid. The single-player campaign does a great job introducing the 18 varied levels, mechanics, unlockables, and alternate modes. Visually and musically, the game commits hard to an SNES-inspired style, which works wonderfully for sprites and sound effects. Unfortunately, the faux-SNES voice samples sound cheap and are the one area where breaking from the retro concept would’ve improved overall quality. The biggest downside is the lack of a permanent online player base, which is a real shame given how good the core gameplay is. On a technical note: it runs well on Steam Deck, but you’ll want to use Proton 9, as Proton 10 currently breaks gamepad input. If you can gather friends or catch an active lobby, Plunder Panic is an absolute blast—and deserved far more attention than it got.

I actually played this a lot on PlayStation and just recently got it on Steam. I have like 40 hours on PlayStation. This game is fun. It truly is. Though if you are hoping to play online, then this might turn you away, because I have yet to see an actual server for me to join on PlayStation or Steam. On the brightside though, your friends can join the game if you have the game, so your friends don't even need a copy to play. They just need the demo. There is a wide range of maps that are pretty cool and I like the characters. The soundtrack is also pretty neat, so that is a plus. They got there own version of the Wellerman in 8-bit style and I'm pretty sure I heard something that sounded similar to Spongebob, so that is a plus.

This game deserves way more attention. Every game is so chaotic, and there are so many things you can do and ways to win, and I haven’t even unlocked half the stuff yet. The fact that it’s a 12-player local is rare. There’s even a pretty robust campaign mode if you only want to play solo. They did a great job theming the game to make you feel like a pirate. A sequel would be awesome, but I know that will never happen. If you’re on the fence, just buy the game.

Fantastic spiritual successor to Killer Queen Black with even more features and customization. The soundtrack does a great job of getting you in the pirate mood but also providing high energy for the many rounds you will eventually play in a row.
