This App is incredible, If you like creating games like minecraft or incredible machines, or you like bridge building games, this takes it to a new level, you can lay traps and then try to escape, its really fun, NO SCRIPTING! simple to build things, and Id rather but this really cheap game than the big pricey ones, I had tons of fun. <y dad is an engineer and was looking for a creating game and he really loved this
In all likelihood I am a little late coming to the Platfinity party and I understand the development of the project is no longer ongoing... That being said, I'll go ahead and give a review for those who are still interested in the software. Scrolling down the other reviews on the store page, I noticed a theme developing amongst the negative reviews. It seems that most of these stemmed from unrealistic expectations. If you are coming into this with the mindset of creating a market beating AAA game, then I'm sorry to say that you will be bound for disappointment. Yes, the program is very limited in the scope of what you can achieve but what it does do, it does well. You can make a simple and fun 2D platformer in minutes... You can easily learn and teach it to younger family members as a means to get them started on their creative journey of game making, which I believe is the best incentive for purchasing Platfinity. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, which in this instance is OK value for money. The biggest thing that let's it down and hampers it's potential is the lack of a Steam Workshop. This would have opened up loads more possibilities with the community able to share resources such as graphics and audio. At the end of the day if what you want is to start making a simple game without having to trawl through hours of video tutorials just to get started with something playable before you're in over your head, then give this a go, it's really fun to create and play. If you want something with more gameplay features and user customisation, then I suggest you look elsewhere.
Great little engine you need an imagination to put something together with this product and must think outside the box This game engine if you choose to give it a chance forces you to look at your ideas in a more simplistic manner. Mind you this is not a heavy duty engine it is a light hobbyist engine I have enjoyed this program put over 200 hr on the clock and have had the engine from the start. learned a lot about how to make games from concept to exporting to exe. Beyond that it has now been helping me flush out ideas in prototypes for other projects with more powerful game engines like C2 and Unity The engine is a challenge to work with and that is what I have always liked about it!! The only Cons is Platfinity Only supports Windows platforms for exporting it would have been nice to put games on other platforms like cell phones or tablets. Last - Platfinity has been an Awesome Experience for me and I will consider it a Memorable Powerful Little Game Engine...
This reminds me a lot of an old c64 game/builder I had called shoot-em-up construction kit. This is much more advanced features but has an easy to pick up simplicity to it that will have you easily creating any type of platformer you could imagine. Tutorials are in the shape of sample levels as you walk over each tile it will instruct you what the tile in front of you does. It could kill you instantly like a spike trap or let you bounce like mario. There are many tiles in many different categories. Tiles are easy to place in the editor although I would prefer a quicker way of erasing a tile say being able to press delete to erase the tile under the cursor. I recommend this as you will be able to be able to make balls-hard platformer games with one pixel collision deaths similar to those awesome games back on the c64 and indie platformers of today. Great! B1trider
Looks like it may be OK but I have no idea how to use it to make my own game (which is why I bought it). Interface is usable but a bit clunky - the main issue is there are no tutorials. Simple enough to use the few sprites and tiles that come with the game but how do you add your own? Trying to import any image just says "Wrong Size". It would be hand to know what size they're meant to be. A basic guide would be great. Seems easy enough to paint your own sprites. Another downside is that there are no game collectables (no keys or items to collect) and no projectiles (guns or bullets). This limits your game to just jumping around, dodging hazards. No scope for puzzles or action. This said, it does have potential but it's just not easy to use out of the box. Not really what I hoped it would be. I would say, if I spend some time with it, I may be able to build a working game, but I the simplicity is too limiting and not intuitive enough to use. As it stands, I could use "snap" instead, for free and with much more versatility. I'll stick with it, I'm sure once I know what size the sprites are meant to be, I can start designing the graphics for my game and I'll come back to change my review.
I would of almost used this software except I cant use the custom titles or anything, Also the game creations softwares name is all over the place... too much advertising to even make a basic platformer you can sell eventhough he the author of this software encourages it.... maybe little less branding it would actually be okay but that alone ruined it for me.
Despite it's simple appearance you can do a lot with it.
A bit clunky, but very good - it has my 6 year old daughter interested in game design.
