Reminds me of Persona games but with pixel graphics. I loved the mystery and trying to handle building up relationship bonds with all of the characters. This is a severely underrated game.
A melancholic, down-to-earth game about loneliness and connection. There are elements of magical realism, with various unexplained happenings going on, but mostly it's a slice of life. Characters chat about their pregnancy, their struggles with college, their work, their marriage. All the routes are well-written, and all weave into the core mystery, but some are more mundane than others. There's a thread of mystique running through it all, and at the end it leaves you with a fair bit to think about. The game is based around picking who to hang out with, with several very distinct endings based on who you managed to get close to. The order in which you hang out with people, and the choices you pick within each event, are occasionally referenced and can give you more/less influence (basically currency).
Satyrion reassuring Lorne in the Na/dia/na ending, despite his route not being a requirement, was sweet and I really liked seeing it.
Also there's a fair bit of diversity, if you care about that. An asexual trans man, a lesbian, and a bisexual polyamorous relationship (which does not involve the player character). But it's not a huge part of the story.

Not my usual style of game, but I was greatly curious on how Twelve Tiles would handle that dating sim/time management/social sim kind of game. Overall, I think Placebo Love does a good job at being a social sim kind of game, with the majority of characters not being romantic relationships. All of the characters are interesting, and the main character manages to have his own personality (which can be rare in the genre). I also really appreciate that in most cases, rather than choosing from various dialogue options, you instead usually get to pick whether Lorne tells the truth, lies, or says half-truths, as it both helps make Lorne be able to have a personality, and it gives more interesting outcomes than the common "correct options"/"wrong options" that you get in a lot of games. I think Rawn and Annie were my personal favorite characters, and (as an aro person), I really appreciate NOT feeling like romance was the whole point. Various forms of relationships are all present and important, which makes all of them feel more meaningful. I also enjoyed seeing what happened to some of the characters from other Twelve Tiles games, too (I greatly enjoyed Last Word, for instance). On top of that, the soundtrack and art style are both good and work well with everything. Some of the big plot can feel a bit unexpected depending on what choices you make, but ultimately, that ends up feeling appropriate, since if you choose to have the protagonist not look into matters, you won't learn about them. Now that I've given it a bit of time since my last playthrough, I think I'll give it a second playthrough relatively soon so I can see some of the characters I missed and learn a bit more about the world.
Placebo Love is a thoughtful exploration of loneliness and connections, but one I wish would have gone a little further. PL is a scheduling game with multiple endings (and conveniences to make seeing much of the content reasonable), pleasant music and art, and occasional minigames to give things a different feel. The characters were broadly enjoyable (shoutout to CC 🦑 ), and the bond system had nice little touches (like what happens when you neglect bonds, the desire to keep up relationships but having to balance time to yourself)... But despite using every character to show different facets of connections, and having some good lines in their stories, the characters themselves and the overarching mystery didn't quite capture my imagination as much as I wanted it to. Which may just be me asking too much of a 10-15hr game! I enjoyed my time with it, hence getting all the endings, and I would recommend it to people who want to look at bonds that aren't as simple as family vs friends vs lover(s). It might just not stick with you for very long after you play.
I can't date anyone else than the clones which is dissapointing but other than that the game looks awesome and sounds awesome.
Placebo Love is one of the most interesting "sims" I've played in a long time. All of the dialogue feels real, and it makes me want to read all that the game has to offer. The characters and their issues are also all fascinating, and it makes me want to replay the game over and over to see everything about them. I haven't even completed the route with the main two girls yet because I want to see all of the other endings as well. I also find Lorne a fascinating protagonist and ended up relating to him alot, as someone who likes to be alone while also feeling lonely (And I love the little message at the beginning of the game that everyone gets lonely sometimes.) I want to see everything there is to see in this game. Definitely recommend.
A story rich game that instantly draws you in to the mystery. The game encourages the player to theorise about what is happening, only to have the characters disprove the theories which just adds to the mystery. The ending is a bit weird and unexpected, but this game is easily worth playing for the journey.
This game... was incredible. I have no idea how to describe it as no words would do the gameplay justice. It's definitely unique and maybe not for everyone but it had me really hooked and I loved every single aspect about it. Go get it and have your mind wandering endless possibilities.
