Experienced on the Meta Quest 3 using Steam Link
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/EN66bLsGE-g THIS IS A NEUTRAL RECOMMENDATION. Warning: this game does require a big room-scale. While you do have full locomotion and smooth / snap turning, you will have to move in your room-scale while trying to make some of these swinging jumps into another platform. For one section, I want to estimate I had to move about 4 meters or about 13-14 feet in order to reach the platform after a bounce jump and hitting the slow-motion button. I liked the neon-art style and the music. However, grabbing on to platforms felt inconsistent. Sometimes I would feel haptic feedback, but other times I wouldn't. The end result is that I was constantly questioning myself on whether I was indeed grabbing on to the platform or not. The bounce pads would often not land me anywhere near where I needed to be, thus making me have to move a lot in my room-scale. That's the reason why I had to play wireless with Steam link. While it's cool that there's multiple ways to get from point A to point B, it often felt like certain paths were sub-optimal. Game just felt clunky and like an Early Access game to me. Luckily, it is an Early Access game so maybe that is all to be expected. I just don't think a platformer is a game type where you want to feel the lack of polish in the core gameplay loop. Rate ?/10. Yeah, I'm being very generous here. I thought about a thumbs down, but since I liked the original Pixel Arcade, I expect this game to be much better with updates. I guess we'll see.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program.
👍 Flinging Fun
The basic game play is flinging fun. Like Climby with graphics and a purpose. Love it. I do hope the dev turns OFF "body" collisions. It runins my momentum and fun. The game does not accurately predict where my body is. The game does not visually represent where it's inaccurate prediction of my body is. This makes it frustrating at times. It should have head collision only... ...AND it should have multiplayer too! even if just voice and no collision. Just would make it more fun. Even if it only showed stains where the hands of the other person where, with a 10 second fade. It would also be nice to see my best score path and hand stains. Very enjoyable VR experience ! Level design is really impressive and by far my favourite aspect of the game. Pixel Arcade offers multiple routes and strategies to approach each level and you can spend hours figuring out the precise jumps and practising the most effective path to get the best time possible. This provides the player with a lot of options with how they choose to progress through the game and offers gameplay that is easy to pick up for the first time but can also be difficult to master. As someone who often suffers from motion sickness in vr games, pixel arcade does a fantastic job minimising these effects, the camera and player movement controls feel accurate, responsive and incredibly smooth and have a very natural-feeling response to my movements. The visual design and cyber aesthetics of the game are amazing and pair very well with the music and sounds effects throughout the entire game. The art style of the levels and the environment compliment the gameplay very well and provide a good balance of flashy, visually appealing graphics and effects without being overwhelming and distracting you from the obstacles ahead of you. Would highly recommend this game to players who enjoy VR and are looking for a fun challenge !
Having a blast with this just now. Never seen portals in VR before, some unique features, look forward to seeing whats to come in the future.
This game really is a ton of fun and worth the price for the VR replay value which is something lacking in VR. The courses are unique with different routes to take based on your confidence, the game had me working up a bit of a sweat in about 45 mins of playtime. Would recommend to anyone looking for a VR game to master with a unique design. Look forward to the updates!
10/10 i like to go fast
This game offers a totally unique vr experience with lots of features clearly designed by someone who wants to offer quality of life gaming as well as innovation. If you want to try something exciting with endless future potential and a very cool concept supported well by the clearly thought out aesthetic and UI then I couldn't recommend anything better
Incredibly fun VR platformer that nails the retro aesthetic without feeling dated. I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun I ended up having. The movement feels smooth and the level design is clever, and it just feels so good to control and play. It's an easy game to pick up and play while retaining a challenge(in a non-frustrating way). Just a very stimulating and addictive game overall, would recommend it to anyone who enjoys VR platforming or VR gaming in general.
Glad to see this released in a full format! It has come a long way since playing a test version, with updated visuals, music, and much smoother gameplay. Fully recommend to people with VR kit!
