Loved it. For a first game from the great Scott I cant wait to see even more!
If you like dungeon crawler and retro games, this is the perfect game for you. It's very fun to dash around the different levels and the variety of weapons and enemys ensures a varied combat system. I like the creativity of the level names and the design. The only thing I'd wish for, is to be able to shoot the projectiles of the red enemy. Edit: Also the framerate is very sexy
Without a doubt Pitch Silent is the greatest game to release since 2012. Among other things, the game perfectly encapsulates the heavy christian theme-ing that I absolutely love about craigian style games. Not only that but the game tells a story unlike any seen by contemporary pieces of triple A media, such as the Last Of Us. The gameplay itself is remenicent of fast pace shooters, while still abiding by the laws of a dungeon crawler. I look forward to seeing the sequel teased throughout the game, which will be titled (as all pitch silent fans know) Pitch Perfect.
Cool presentation with the enviroments. Movment feels good. And enemy design is great. The game give a very nostalgic feeling of PS2 era FPS games.
Rather simple and barebones, yet quite atmospheric old school style movement focused fps. You are some kind of mage and your weapons are mace and different types of crystal balls that shoot ranged magics. Provides intense gameplay with couple surreal scenes that were really nice addition. For less than 2e it's not bad experience at all.
A fantastic, albeit short, game that plays like a retro arcade shooter. There's a unique and fun dash mechanic, a decent variety of guns, and monsters that seem to be themed off of four different elements. The map design is intriguing, and seemingly evolves as you go through the game. The story is very loose, and it's up to your imagination as to what the game is truly about. I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough, and I think the game is well done. Stay moving, and don't die, or you may have to redo a bit! My only complaint is there's no auto saving, so it's up to you to save periodically.
great adventure game made with love and passion by an awesome gamedev!
To be blunt, this game is a poor man's Amid Evil. I don't want to come off as overly negative since this was made by one guy and it's only a few bucks (and I'm guessing it's his first game), but it comes off as very lackluster and missing so much potential. For starters, you're not given any clue on what you're doing and why. We never learn who, or what, you are, where you are, what you're fighting, and how you can use all the magic powers you gain. There's some sporadic Christian imagery here and there and a few quotes from scripture, but nothing else really. Honestly, the levels quickly started to feel random and nonsensical the further along I played. You'll be in a cave one level, the moon in another, than some ruins, and eventually a block-filled void that seems reminiscent of Superhot. None of it connects in a meaningful way. The developer's game description (which comes off as rather hostile and defensive, by the way) seems to justify this lack of plot as "environmental storytelling", but there is very little IN the environment to give any hints as to what's happening. The gameplay, while solid, isn't all that interesting. From what I saw (I didn't play the secret area) there are 6 weapons in the game. There's a staff melee weapon, a pistol, a shotgun, a machine gun, a grenade launcher, and eventually another staff that shoots homing projectiles (again reminiscent of one of Amid Evil's weapons). Aside from the staffs, they all need ammo that comes in the form of different-colored specks lying across the ground. The ammo-using weapons are all pretty standard aside from being magic dark-colored orbs instead of actual guns, which I do not like. I think if the orbs cast more unique magical attacks, I wouldn't mind, but the fact that they're just fantasy guns is incredibly uncompelling. None of them are fun to use, especially the "pistol" orb which is incredibly inaccurate since there's not really a way to aim. The magic staff weapon you get later in the game, though admittedly much more fun to use, is way too OP. It gives you a ranged (and homing) attack that consumes no ammo and can be fired very quickly. Once I got it, I made very little use of the other weapons for the rest of the game. Your movement is slow, with the only thing you can do to speed up is dash either on the ground or in the air (the latter getting you much further). This isn't so bad in the more compact levels, but it becomes very noticeable in the few levels that are very open. Even when jump dashing, it takes what feels like forever to navigate the open spaces. You're also rather restricted on where you can go, as there are a lot of invisible walls. That's not something I like to see in a game that's trying to emulate old-school shooters, and it was rather frustrating to not be able to reach places I SHOULD be able to naturally. In stark contrast, the few aforementioned open levels are WAY too open and felt pointless, especially given the lack of enemies in them. There is very little enemy variety. All of the enemies are these elemental humanoid creatures (again, its never explained what these things are, or why they're attacking you). Outside of these, there are no other types or forms of enemies. These humanoids come in different glowing colors, and sometimes have different halo-like symbols floating over them. Their attacks depend on their color, and most seem to mirror your weapons. Despite these small differences, however, they all feel mostly the same to me. They're all weird glowing dudes who shoot blasts of energy that only differ slightly from each other. Fighting them is also not rewarding at all. They make almost no sounds, drop nothing upon death, and don't even have death animations (they just drop and ragdoll on the ground). The general art style of the game is quite dull, with almost all levels being dark, colorless, and barren. In many of these levels, even the bright colors of the enemies are heavily muted. A few of the levels are more vibrant and varied, but not enough for my liking. Not only does this make progressing through the levels boring, it also makes them difficult to navigate. There's no map or any indicators on where to go, and some of the levels are huge empty mazes. Exploring is more of a chore than something to enjoy. There are no bosses, not even a final boss, and the game ends very anticlimactically. In one level earlier in the game, you see silhouettes of dragons and sea monsters, and I thought you were going to fight them. Heck, there's even a giant three-headed dragon towards the end of the game that I thought might be the final boss. I don't understand why these are just set pieces instead of creatures you can fight, especially since they add nothing to the story. To summarize my long ramble, this game is very disappointing, even for its price. I think if the developer had worked on it longer, it could've been a much stronger first time product. Maybe he'll even remake it at some point, who knows. I wish nothing but the best for Scott Craighead, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
