Was hoping was a decent pirate-theme strategy puzzler, but instead I got an iPad port of pirate-themed mini-games on a strategy world map. Disappointing and overall boring.
3/10
Not worth a dime, should be for free.; if existing at all. Rather small map, 8 cities to conquer in total. Would say it´s a children´s version of Pirates meets Total War meets North&South, if it would not be so unfair. Even with an overforce of 4 to 1 you won´t beat the game, when not set to automatic combat calculation, just because you can´t act as quickly as the computer does, who controls all units at once while you waste time with clicking them. And then, if that´s not enough of a casket-nail for a game, your turns take about 1 minute, followed by four to six minutes of waiting for calculation processes, watching the enemy move, watching traders to move, watching storms and sharks to move. Who got time for that? Me not.
Tags: Boards & Cards Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: A casual board game style strategy with some minigames thrown in for strategic battles, fast paced and well designed on paper, but not very enjoyable in practice. Review: This game feels a lot like a cleaner, less dated pirate reskin of Bluecoats: North VS South. You have two teams face off, with certain strategic points linked together by trade, allowing you to navigate a unit up and down the trade route to generate income. Income can be generated by opening chests thrown about the ocean. There are about 3 different hazards that will kill a random unit each turn with variables based on which disaster happens. Shop can buy protection from disaster, upgrade your troops and hire more units. Fleet on fleet battle is a fast paced mess that looks a little bit like a flash based bullet hell where you control multiple specialist units. Whoever dies stays dead and the fleet is permanently weakened, but fleets can be merged. Ports are almost impossible to capture as the minigame for them are a cover based shooter where you only have three lives controlling one pirate, that faces off against a very large number of fast ducking and shooting units. The units fire in irregular patterns and will often fire right after one another making it impossible to retaliate. I played three of the four modes on normal difficulty. On the first, most basic equal terms map the disasters killed the ennemy in two turns. In the other versions I would perform poorly with the minimap, found the trading route mechanic to generate income clunky to use. The options menu is fairly limited in terms of graphical settings, but the game did fullscreen correctly. I found that the game had rather cheap sound effects and the looping music was irritating despite being appropriately piratey in tone. Overall I would say this is probably the kind of game that you have to beat yourself into learning to like, but once you do the A.I. becomes the greatest obstacle to a fun game, and finding someone to play this with you will prove challenging. I will therefore remove it from my library as I did with Bluecoats.
Gegen Freunde bestimmt sehr lustig.
