About
In a world of countless tiers, stars are divided into zones based on the strength of their light.
The protagonist, Pio, born with a faint light, begins their journey in the lowest tier, the Graveyard of Stars, yet carries a deep longing for the upper tiers.
To realize this dream, Pio takes on the Trials of the Stars, aiming to ascend to the higher realms.

Pio is a unique action platformer where players use the terrain they stand on to attack enemies.
The game's standout feature is that the player's bullets also serve as terrain.

The more bullets you fire, the smaller the terrain becomes, demanding precise control. On the other hand, conserving bullets means enduring the onslaught of powerful monsters.
Experience this innovative action gameplay as you strategically manage your terrain and bullets to overcome challenges!
As you continue to face challenges, a more dreamlike world of stars unfolds.
Embark on a shining journey and explore a unique world!

It's a good game with a very cool combat system but wow it's hard. Struggled to beat the second boss then I was done. I heard it's really short too, which could make the grind feel pointless. Maybe it's less like a game and more like a game demo?

very good!
Only played it for a little bit, but I did enjoy it. It is a bit confusing that it had controller on its setting but when I tried controller it didn't work when getting into gameplay. I think concept and battle mechanics are very interesting though! Some polish is needed but I think I'd recommend this to those who like 2-D platformers with a cute aesthetic.
super
The game needs a LOT MORE polish. It's undercooked. Apparently, it was a university project, so it feels more like a demo than a full game. Pio has an amazing core idea and unique gameplay. It combines platforming and puzzles into a real time combat system, which I've never seen before. However, it feels janky at times because of the slippery movement and the lack of readable enemy attacks. That said, once you get into the flow and start bouncing all over the screen, it feels fantastic! I enjoyed my short time with it, and I even replayed the final boss immediately after beating it because the game left me wanting more. I wish the developers could turn this into a full game with tighter controls and deeper mechanics, although I'm not sure if they own the IP rights 🤔 More issues I had with the game: - The stages are overdesigned, making it hard to see enemy projectiles through all the VFX. - The platforming sections are too basic and don't have any interesting mechanics. - The worldbuilding is confusing. It mixes celestial star beings with animal skeletons. Like what is the main character even supposed to be? A star with ears and paws? - Respawning after death takes too long. - There are too many dialogue boxes and tutorials that don't say anything important. - No PlayStation controller support or remappable controller inputs. - The UI is unintuitive and kinda ugly. - No Steam achievements. At the end of the day, all I care about is the gameplay, and for me, Pio felt good to play. Because of that, I can overlook most of its issues and recommend it to anyone who's willing to put up with a bit of jank. 😁
