Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Peraglees - The Ooloufian Resistance Review

Shoot First, Question Later
Peraglees is a wild ride back to the good ol' days of 80s and 90s arcade shooters, but with a modern twist. Imagine chaotic, fast-paced action where you’re mowing down hordes of enemies, collecting power-ups, and desperately trying not to get obliterated while you save the Fennyverse from a goblin invasion. Oh, and did I mention the two adorable yet lethal bow-wow companions? Yeah, it’s that kind of game. It’s unapologetically retro, with chunky 16-bit visuals, an intense chiptune soundtrack, and gameplay that’s all about one thing: shooting first, asking questions never.
About This Game

Storyline
The story of Peraglees is classic space-action cheese at its finest, and honestly, that's part of its charm. You play as KAOTIX Fury (yes, all caps—because why not?) and his brother Slade, who return from a supply run only to find their home planet, Peraglees, under siege. Old Whiplin, the big bad, has taken control of the entire Fennyverse, and it's up to you, your brother, and your trusty doggo pals to save the day. It’s a simple setup—think Star Wars meets Contra—with plenty of goblins and bosses to blast through as you hop from planet to planet, reclaiming them from Whiplin’s forces. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it gets the job done and sets the stage for some serious shoot-em-up action.
Gameplay Mechanics
This is where Peraglees shines—if you’re into non-stop action, that is. The game doesn’t waste time throwing you into the thick of things. It’s a top-down, twin-stick shooter where your mission is clear: shoot everything that moves, dodge whatever’s shooting back, and collect as many power-ups as possible. You’ve got plenty of weapons at your disposal, ranging from the ever-reliable Ooloufian Rifle to the explosive Cluster Launcher. And the Mega Bomb? Oh, it’s a beautiful thing when you're overwhelmed by enemies and need to level the playing field. The roll mechanic is pretty slick too. Not only does it help you dodge, but it doubles as a melee attack. Throw in the ability to plant mines mid-roll and suddenly you’re feeling like a tactical genius as you dodge and blow up enemies simultaneously. The action gets even better in co-op mode. Whether you’re couch-gaming with a buddy or playing online via Steam Remote Play, having a second player adds to the madness, and there’s nothing like screaming at your friend to grab the extra ammo before you both bite the dust.
Visuals and Audios
If you love retro vibes, Peraglees is going to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. The pixel art is straight out of the 16-bit era, with bright colours and detailed sprites that give everything that chunky, nostalgic feel. It’s not going to blow your mind visually, but it doesn’t need to. It’s charming and fits the arcade shooter style perfectly. And the soundtrack—oh man, the soundtrack. It’s full-on chiptune goodness, and it's exactly what you'd want while you’re blasting away at enemies. It brings serious Doom and Mega Man vibes, which keeps your adrenaline pumping. Just make sure you turn the music volume up (apparently some players missed it because the default setting was a bit low at first—classic early access hiccup).
Pros

Non-stop action that’s easy to jump into and hard to put down.
A fun variety of weapons that make each playthrough feel different.
Slick melee and mine-planting mechanics that add some strategy to the chaos.
Great retro 16-bit visuals and a killer soundtrack.
Couch co-op and online play make it perfect for teaming up with friends.

Cons

The story isn’t anything to write home about—definitely more of a backdrop than a compelling narrative.
It’s in early access, so right now, there are only a few bosses and few areas to explore. But hey, more content is promised.
The action can get a little too chaotic at times, especially when enemies respawn faster than you can reload.

Conclusion
Peraglees is a love letter to classic arcade shooters. It’s fast, it’s frantic, and it’s a blast whether you’re playing solo or with a friend. Sure, the story might not stick with you long after you’ve saved the Fennyverse, but that’s not why you play a game like this. You play it for the satisfaction of watching enemies explode in a pixelated frenzy. If you’re a fan of retro shooters and looking for something fun and chaotic to sink your teeth into, this one’s definitely worth checking out—especially at its budget price. Grab a buddy, lock and load, and get ready to save the Fennyverse one pixel at a time. Rating: 8/10 We can let this slide…

It's been a long time since I played video games of this calibur and with much creativity. What really drives home with this particular game, is how it focuses more on simplicity and running with it. The easier the game is to control, the more efficient it is to innovate and add on to it. Peraglees The Oolufian Resistance is not only one of my top video games of all time, but it is one that really drives home what really makes a video game shine throughout each generation. Reinvention and differentiation. In this review, I am going to go over how both terms relate to this game, my pros, the professionalism of DPADFTW as a whole and what I am looking forward to moving forward with Peraglees The Ooloufian Resistance. Update as of 01/24/2026: I am happy to be able to tell my Mother BEFORE her passing to Ovarian Cancer, that I was in my first video game. The tears she shed? I will never forget them. Thank you again DPADFTW for giving me that opportunity. She thanks you too. When it comes to reinvention, Peraglees really steps up it's game and definitely fulfill it's promises. From one of the most creative game over scenes I have ever witnessed, to loads of weapons that you can switch at will, from the incredible/innovative music and from it's difficulty settings. One of the most intriguing difficulty settings, is the extreme mode. It brings me back to the old days of gaming where if the player dies, you will start all over again. Even if you beat the game one time, what really makes it addicting, is the unlockables and there are plenty of them to explore/easter eggs! One must admire what DPADFTW was able to produce, despite it's limited budget. The cutscenes pay excellent homage to old school retro gaming, where you read the text and see some of the characters moving with minor sound effects and voice acting. One of my favorite scenes, is where KAOTIX is confronting an elderly man and they have a heart to heart conversation. (Not gonna say much more, because I don't want to spoil it) It's moments like these, that really help you to see what DPADFTW was aiming for and it knocks it out of the ball park! The art style is definitely unique and pays much respect to the likeness of it's own/past artists from generations before us. There was definitely a lot of love and heart, put into each frame as the character is interacting with each character, including their trusty companion, the almighty doggo. Believe me when I say, there is a lot of lore when it comes to KAOTIX's friendly companion and he will help you during the hardest of boss fights and encounters of any difficulty! In terms of differentiation, there are a plenty of them. With most protagonist from old retro games, the main character has a goal, missions and gets a happy ending. That doesn't happen here and you will have to play the game/wait for future updates, to find out. It's a breath of fresh air to see any game development team, take what they have already experienced, mix it up a bit and give the audience and fans, something new and fresh to look at/experience. It's what keeps me coming back to Peraglees The Ooloufian Resistance time and time again. From it's large arsenal of weapons, random generation of items, that keeps the player guessing/figuring out how to strategize during each encounter and boss fight! Not to mention, the beautiful art/stage design, will keep you coming back! DPADFTW aims to please, when it comes to adding gameplay mechanics, that you wished existed in past generational games that Peraglees is heavily inspired from. Now let's talk about the professionalism of DPADFTW. Incredible! A leading standard/example of what makes Indie games not only so much fun, but trustworthy at the sametime. The staff have a heart of gold and the lead game designer/artist, were incredibly determined, to meet the needs/wants of those who supported them and tried out the demo. Anytime I ran into any minor issue with Peraglees The Ooloufian Resistance, it was easily fixed by simply messaging one of the staff team members on their discord server. KAOTIX has a drive, very understanding/is extremely determined, to make sure that this dream project comes to fruition at all costs. Well KAOTIX and his team delivered ten fold! In conclusion, Peraglees The Ooloufian Resistance is absolutely worth owning in your game library/sharing with friends. With the promises of new features, a story mode plus and much more based on the requests from the supporters, the future is incredibly bright for this game. I am honored to be able to test, support and even be apart of the many, who were playing this game on release day/spreading the word about it on different social media platforms! Seeing Kickstarter projects like this, is inspirational to not only future game designers, but to current ones who are looking for some motivation, to keep going with their projects. Peraglees The Oolufian Resistance proves, that no matter the budget or how small your team is, anything can be achieved. The future updates and the levels of positivity within DPADFTW, ensures that this project is in good hands. And of course the loads of weapons to choose from when mowing down my enemies! Delighted to call this one of my top ten games of 2024! Update as of 09/19/24: The new update is a HUGE improvement over the latest ones. Absolutely well done and I am looking forward to more content in the future! Don't get discouraged by low sales and etc. We want to see more of this game! ^^
