Pengo Friendo is here to help. I’m a cute robot penguin that lives on your desktop. Whenever you get distracted, I’ll gently nudge you back on track. I can remind you why your goals matter or share proverbs and wisdom from the greats who came before us. We can even go fishing together: you focus for a set amount of time, and I’ll catch a delightful fish as your reward.

I also bring along a notebook you can use to plan your day and reflect on your progress. Each morning, I’ll recognize your consistency and effort with new fishing bait to help us catch even better fish.

Leaderboards, achievements, and habit tracking are all included!

HOW IT WORKS

Pengo Friendo is designed with privacy in mind. Activity detection is handled by a separate, auditable Python process that determines only whether your current activity is work-related, using a keyword list that you control.

The application never receives or stores window titles, so it does not know which programs or websites you are using. Only the final classification is passed to the main process.

When you become distracted, Pengo Friendo can generate a motivational message based on your goals. To make the message more personal and relevant, the prompt can also include your self-description and journal entries. You can opt out of using this information at any time, in which case the generated message will be more general.

You can run the language model locally with Ollama, keeping all data on your device, or use OpenAI through an API configuration with no data retention.
