I am on the edge, but I'm leaning towards a negative review. The game has great pixel art design, well thought small details and is fun to play until you have to solve some rather ambiguous riddles. The hints can be extremely hidden and sometimes reach back up to a few quests. The problem is, that you have no way to go back and look at the hints so that you remotely have a chance to solve them. As an example there is a golden elevator, where there are 2 people talking. One mentions that the door code starts with 36. Great, you've had that entered in another quest however that can be days ago and you can't remember. There is also no way to go back without loading a previous game - which might not be existing. If anybody is searching, the code to that door is 3626. The boss fights begin very nice, however towards the end they get ridiculously hard. Not like "oh my character is weak" type hard but more like "lets spoil the game for the player exactly at this point" type hard. The game has very good music, an entertaining cliche storyline, some very nice small details, however all in all, the ridiculously hard boss fights and stupidly ambiguous hints can spoil the game very quickly. With a broken heart, I give this game a thumbs down.

John Sousa was a detective in Pecaminosa. He was discharged from the force and found comfort through alcohol. One night he thought to ease off on the old Mack Janiels after receiving an impromptu visit from a top mobster, Charlie Two Angels, and his lieutenants, who he killed a few weeks ago. No, it wasn’t a dream, it was real, and the dead mobster asked him to find his old partner who vanished from town a couple of weeks ago. Are you ready to enter the street of Pecaminosa – A Pixel Noir Game? Pecaminosa – A Pixel Noir Game is a story-driven action game with a bit of choice matter element, developed by Cereal Games and published by BadLand Publishing on the 27 May 2021 on the Steam platform and Nintendo Switch. The game consists of three chapters, including 7 boss fights for the main story. In addition, there is a side chapter, but I am not able to confirm the content as I am currently stuck on the last boss fight! The first chapter is based in the town of Pecaminosa, where you’ll be able to explore nine locations and visit several buildings, one of which is the Casino where you can play blackjack to earn extra cash if you are good at it. The other important place to visit is Saint Joachim, where the Weiszly pawnshop is located and where you can buy ammunition. You can also buy ammunition at the trainyard by talking to Lucas. You’ll be able to take a taxi from one location to the next; it will cost you money (chips) for each ride. I found walking around was very easy, especially if you are only interested in playing the story. It will tell you where to go on the mini-map, displayed on the right hand corner of your screen. As you walk around the streets, you’ll find manholes that you can access, but make sure you have enough ammunition before going down there. This chapter has three boss fights. The second chapter will be set in the desert, where you’ll have to find the mansion and fight Charlie Two Angels and his two lieutenants. This chapter is mostly combat, which is pretty much the same for the third chapter, which is also held in the desert and in hell where you’ll meet the last boss. The foundation of the story is laid out in the first chapter as you meet the bulk of the NPC’s. Most of the conversation will be part of the story, but on a few occasions, you’ll have to choose how to respond. A few options will be presented to you, but you might find that some will not be able for select. It will depend on your level of abilities, which are Luck, Intelligence, Force and Endurance. You’ll receive 2 points each time you level up your character, and you can distribute them between the four abilities. You level up your character by fighting your way through. For every enemy you kill, you’ll receive experience points. Some of them will drop an item, such as a box of ammunition, a half or full bottle of whiskey that you can use to regenerate your health (if only it was true), a pack of cigarettes that give you more luck when activated it, or casino chips (currency). In terms of weapons, your arsenal will consist of a gun, shotgun, machine gun and the Wrath of God, which you’ll acquire one by one as you progress through the story. And there are a couple of easy puzzles to figure out too. I enjoyed all the aspects of the game and especially the bosses fights, which are progressively challenging. Great pixel artwork, and the jazz soundtrack is super cool (if you like jazz, that is). I also like the fact that in the Gamepedia, there are good descriptions and backgrounds of all the main NPC’s you meet in the game. It might take you 8 to 10 hours to finish the game or maybe more if you are like me stuck on the last boss. In terms of control, you can play with your mouse and keyboard or a gamepad. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Great pixel artwork + interesting story with 3 chapters to complete + Challenging boss fights + Different types of enemies + Great Soundtrack + Achievements. Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No trading cards as yet - Frustrating at times (boss fights) If you enjoy pixel graphics and a dark story with great action, Pecaminosa – A Pixel Noir Game, is for you! 8/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. After following this game's progress for quite a while and now being able to play it and finish it already TWICE I can happily say that I had a very fun experience and it was worth the wait Pecaminosa gives you what they told you were going to have: rich story, Immersive ambient, amazing soundtrack, fun boss battles and some dried humour... which was very welcome. Being able to play as an old detective trying to fix his past mistakes while living in a hopeless city where drugs, sex, violence happens from day to night. Managing to find a little bit of hope just for it to be taken away from you... and still moving on was quite interesting. This game truly shows the "Noir" feeling you would expect and it felt great, highly recommend giving it a try PS - some bugs might show up once in a while, but as the team has shown before, they are listening and will do their utmost best to fix it :)
I'm loving the atmosphere of this game. Would eat again at Lazarotti's Pizzeria
Wonderful environment. Fluid gameplay. Hard as sh*t. 9 out of 10
It is dark and jazzy. It nails the atmosphere really well. There seems to be quite a bit of depth to the gameplay customization. The writing is pretty good and the art style is solid. Definitely worth a go if you are into noir and gamemaker games. https://youtu.be/v16NtBywyA0
My current minutes of play does not reflect the hour I invested in this game. 0 to 100 real fast when it comes to the undead elements of the game - but, the bosses are simple. The level designs and atmosphere is what really makes this GOOD! Warning, you will find yourself lost on what you have to do if you do not pay attention like this drunken monkey here, KEK!!!
