I was into it until I was introduced to the crusade mechanic. Now i'm just spamming the rest button until i can get more recruits. It's also written for a more modern audience. Good controller support though.
boring
2 Improvements from Kingmaker: - Swarm-type enemies are no longer as annoying as they were in Kingmaker. YES! Swarm is no longer immune to melee attacks, including bows. - Changes to kingdom management make it less "rushed" for the player since there's no time limit and no risk of failure. What I like and don't like about WotR: Likes: A. The amount of content is massive! Including DLC content, optional side content, and companion quests. B. Replayability is extremely high thanks to the Mythic Path system — the main story can play out in many different ways. C. Class building is a ton of fun: there are Mythic abilities and feats, a wide variety of supporting items and equipment, and you can keep stacking them! Dislikes: A. Only a few companions truly click with me (personality-wise, not gameplay-wise). My connection to the companions in Kingmaker was much stronger. Nenio is the most annoying, but I have to use her! B. The scale is too grand (fighting demons), so the roleplaying feels a bit less immersive. In Kingmaker, the focus was on building your own kingdom, which fit perfectly with roleplaying.
The plot and characters are amazing, the writing is though provoking, the character building opportunities are immense, the amount of mechanics is staggering and intimidating, but the combat encounters often feel like they were designed solely to piss you off
A Masterpiece Hidden Behind Excessive Tedium Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous requires an unprecedented level of effort, patience, and complexity compared to almost any other cRPG. However, due to its terrible pacing and frustrating mechanics, getting a return on that effort sometimes feels impossible. Pros: - Mythic Paths: The Mythic system (especially the Demon path) feels insanely powerful and shapes the story brilliantly. - Deep Character Building: Deep customization with endless class choices and theorycrafting potential. - Epic Scale: High stakes and memorable endgame encounters. Cons: - Developer Hostility & 'Core' Difficulty: The "Core" difficulty feels explicitly designed to make you hate your life. The balancing is completely unforgiving and unfair, making it feel like the developers are actively fighting against the player rather than rewarding them. (Personal experience: I played the first 90 hours on Core, dropped to Normal for the next 50 hours, and finally set it to Story mode for the last 24 hours just to survive the exhaustion.) - Obnoxious Puzzles: Some of the late-game puzzles (like the ones in the Ineluctable Prison) are needlessly convoluted and utterly ruin the game's momentum. - Pacing & Navigation Bloat (Act 3): Act 3 severely kills the game's momentum with its bloated crusade management, tedious map navigation, and endless back-and-forth travel that grinds the main story pacing to a halt. - Buff-Stacking Simulator: Pre-buffing with dozens of spells before every single fight becomes exhausting very quickly. Verdict: No other cRPG offers this much depth and effort, but the sheer amount of bloat, relentless difficulty, and tedious navigation turn it into a love-hate experience. Note for players coming from other cRPGs: If you are looking for a smooth, accessible experience that won't test your sanity, this is definitely NOT the right stop for you. Unless you are ready to keep guides open constantly, stay away. 8.5/10
Good RPG which becomes great with mods. It is 100+ hours long and I did not really encounter any bugs. The game can be played turn based or real time with pause. There are ton of settings to twiddle and tweak your game. Character customization is amazing. Lots of classes, skills, feats to choose from. In fact there are so many it can feel a bit overwhelming for new players. Baldurs Gate 3 feels very casual compared to Pathfinder. There are a ton of character builds out there, use them! There are skill checks in the game, so it is recommended to specialize each character. There are a ton of different weapons types in the game. I guess this is good for replayability, but it also negatively impacts the game, because it dilutes the number of unique weapons in the game. Also there are only a handful of gloves, braces and boots, but a ton of belts, rings. Main story is good and intersting and quests are good. Some of the stuff you do and choices you make impact the game, which is nice. There is a morality system and some of the dialogue is marked as “good”, “neutral” or “evil”. Unfortunately, it is really basic and the evil choice almost always is “kill kill kill”. You travel on a map from location to location to do your quests. The locations look amazing and are very well crafted. Traveling on the world map is somewhat lame. Your characters get exhausted and then you need to rest. The frequency for rest seemed really high, but this can be adjusted using mods. You also get ambushed a lot. The Crusade management is absolutely terrible. Recruiting armies, moving them around the map and doing turn based battles like Disciples or Heroes of Might and Magic is super boring and it really gets you out of the flow of the RPG part of the game. Use mods to get through this part of the game.
In-your-face politically motivated character relationships being presented within the first few hours of gameplay isn't something I can recommend in any writing in any piece of media. It was annoying and unnecessary tokenization in The Elder Scrolls: Online, and it's annoying as well as unnecessary tokenization here. Writing, ideally, should be subtle. The incident that inspired this review was about as subtle as high-impact dentistry via mechanical application of masonry.
Mid to late - Game and dunno guys, its not a bad game and storywise totally fine but there are times that this **** is unbalanced as f**k. i mean how the actual f**k u gonna hit 63 ac, Fast heal 20 and over 700 HP. to their defense it may be an optional boss but what the actual f**k are u smoking. sure lets give the lv 14 party an fking lv 35 monster with 8 lv 9 adds. oh and lets not forget, each spawn attack drains strenght so to be sure they dont hit. oh wait i got an even better idea, lets give the boss +35 in all saving throws, + 41 to hit AND a level drain ability on hit. sounds good? yeah welcome to pathfinder wrath of righteous, or better wrath of f**king dingeldongs. i may rage now and i will finish it but god will i be thankful once thats over. P.s. The fact that u cant respec characters without mod, and mods disable achievement and u have to get another mod for that is just hillarriosu. i like pathfinder as ttrpg but this is a disgrace for the system. Holy cow.
