This is a fun experience...If you like S.T.A.L.K.E.R or post-apocalyptic vibes then this might please you. It is straight forward and once you get how everything works it's quite peaceful to just play casually. However it definitely needs a few bug fixes. The main one is when scanning an anomaly the image for the logbook entry is like extremely zoomed in and barely shows the anomaly in question if at all. Another bug is when playing this game on a higher graphics setting the trunk of the vehicle where it connects to the top of it the trunk door will slowly begin to sink down into itself pushing the vehicle into the ground slightly before suddenly the whole thing just pops back up to where it should be, only for it to happen again and again. In my experience the player can take damage from this and it becomes rather annoying as the only way to stop it as I have found is to lock the game at 60fps in the in game settings. Other than that it is a challenging yet casual game for me. Like siting by a fire in a post-apocalyptic world playing guitar and sharing the good time memories of what used to be.
If you like stalker-lites, road trips, and the ambience of the pacific northwest this game is probably for you. Has a very nice survival aspect based around maintaining and upgrading your car that isn't anywhere near my summer car levels of complicated but you will still be fiddling with tires and other parts giving out and fiddling with the parking brake like a idiot. I played on the "normal" difficulty and didnt die once so if its your first time and your a epik elite gamer you might want to consider upping the difficulty as this game borders on almost too easy at times. Thats the nifty thing however as all the difficulty settings are very customizable on the fly so its really up to you how difficult everything is. Story wise not that stellar IMO i was interested in the lore of the "generic government science organization that may or may not be behind everything" but as for the characters... eh. Game looks pretty nice and ran fine on my system, the vibes of taking a road trip are very well done thanks to the devs knowing the area of the game well IRL and well chosen music for the radio (bonus points for letting me put my own music) For my fellow chickens who can barely handle any horror, this game isn't that scary. The only things that creeped me out were the weeping angel like anomalies that move when you weren't looking, which you can get rid of them by
throwing a flare and they'll go towards it and die
. Except for the very much spooky themed DLC whispers of the woods, havent finished that yet and not sure i have the big boy guts to (also heard very mixed reviews about it). All in all I enjoyed and got my money's worth out of this
swing and a miss. i like chill road trip games, i like scp-esque weird anomaly horror, i like some element of survival or management in my games, so this should be like digital heroin. instead i bounced off it hard because it's not very good at capturing that "road trip" vibe. travelling to a location means going into your garage, clicking on a map, and then being taken to it offscreen instead of driving there and maybe finding stuff along the way. the maps themselves are way too packed, there's a POI every few minutes and you spend more time out of your car than you do in it. it doesn't feel isolated enough to really heighten the horror. there's far too much emphasis on activities outside the car that make it feel like it's just a vehicle instead of your only lifeline even if that's the case storywise. i thought it'd be like the long drive where the focus was primarily the car. the story really isn't that interesting and the characters are just kinda generic archetypes who yap a bit too much to give you that lone explorer vibe you'd expect from, say, STALKER. you have quirky funny engineer mechanic man, snarky old scientist woman, and some other guy i completely forgot about.
Pacific Drive is one of those games where my main reaction was basically: “What the hell am I even playing?” And somehow… I mean that in a good way. The whole concept is weird from the start. You’re trapped in this strange, unstable exclusion zone, driving around in an old station wagon, gathering resources, fixing your car, upgrading it, and trying to survive increasingly bizarre anomalies. The car is basically your lifeline. You repair it, modify it, improve it, replace parts, add new equipment, and slowly turn it into this strange post-apocalyptic survival machine. And the world around you is just… weird. Storms, anomalies, strange phenomena, distorted environments — half the time you’re exploring, and the other half you’re wondering what kind of fever dream you accidentally drove into. I don’t even remember every detail anymore, but I definitely remember the feeling: confusion, curiosity, tension, and “what the ♥♥♥♥ is happening now?” It’s not a normal survival game, and it’s definitely not a normal driving game either. It’s this bizarre mixture of both, wrapped in a very strange atmosphere. Pacific Drive is weird as hell — but that’s exactly why it’s memorable. Not for everyone, but if you like unusual games that feel completely different from the usual formula, it’s absolutely worth trying.
great game, great mechanics! Maybe this mechanic can be utilized in other games
TOP lotterská hra, úžasná atmosféra a vizuály, ...
Gut gemachte Spielwelt, es motiviert die Welt zu erkunden und das Fahrzeug aufzumotzen. Teilweise etwas unheimliches Flair aber keine Horror oder Schockeffekte.
