Get in, get gear, get out. If that sounds familiar to players of extraction shooters then you know what Pacific Drive is. The problem is that these games are all about an interesting progression system and tinkering with builds to create different playstyles which is why they overlap with RPGs. Experimentation is really at the heart of extraction games -- and Pacific Drive is unfortunately heartless. While the novelty of the anomalies may hold your interest at first, you're eventually left to consider why you keep playing. Bigger inventory. Bigger engine. Bigger battery. Bigger engine. Stronger Doors. Better tires. You can see the problem, it is just numbers going up and that is the majority of what the game has to offer. Sure there's a narrative here but the zone is so punishing that you're forced to farm in the same familiar zones over and over until your numbers are high enough to move on. It's a grind and not one which promises anything entertaining at the end of it.
I honestly didn't expect to love Pacific Drive this much when I first started playing it. I came for the weird survival driving, exploring the Zone, upgrading the car, and trying not to get destroyed on the way home, but I stayed because I genuinely got invested in the story and the characters. 🌲 I really loved Tobias and Francis. Their relationship was one of my favorite parts of the story, and I loved that they were a couple. They felt so natural together, and it made me care about both of them even more. What happened to Tobias honestly made me really sad. 💔 I wasn't expecting this game to hit me emotionally like that. And Oppy... I absolutely love her. ❤️ Her dry, sarcastic, cynical attitude is probably a big reason why I like her so much. I honestly see a bit of myself in her. She's blunt and sometimes sounds like she's completely done with everything, but underneath all of that, she's someone who really cares. I really enjoyed every conversation with her. 📻 I also didn't expect to become so attached to the car. You start with this barely functioning station wagon, and after dozens of hours of repairing it, upgrading it, changing parts, surviving horrible runs together, and somehow making it back to the garage, it really starts feeling like your car. 🚗🔧 The Zone itself is beautiful, creepy, and mysterious. 🌲⚡ Even after around 60 hours, I still enjoyed driving around, finding strange things, gathering materials, and slowly turning my car into an absolute monster. I just finished the main story and I genuinely loved the journey and the ending. I'm actually a little sad that it's over. 🥲 Thankfully, I still have Whispers in the Woods waiting for me. 🌲👀 Definitely one of those games I'm going to remember. Highly recommended. ❤️🚗
A survival horror game around a car is not what I expected. I don't usually play survival horror games because of how much they rely on resource collection, there's certainly that aspect in this game as well, but I had fun and enjoyed the main gameplay loop. You drive around in an old station wagon that has formed an unusual attachment to you and you could die if you try to force your way out of this relationship. Trying to survive what is essentially the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone from Stalker but in Washington State, you have to find and collect resources to upgrade and maintain your car while avoiding all the hazards and dangers that comes with driving through a failed government experiment. This is a survival crafting game with lots of horror elements, there's no getting around it. When you think you have enough resources, you don't, trust me. It can get very time consuming if all you care about is the story, but it's still unique and different every time you go in. I didn't have many issues and the ones I did have weren't game breaking or detrimental to my progress. The story was wonderful and brought me to tears a couple of times. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the story and the little tapes I found out in the Zone. Overall, this game is an amazing game and more so survival crafting than a car game. You could probably run through the story in roughly 30 hours if you really tried and didn't bother with getting the best equipment. I haven't tried the harder difficulties or Iron Wagon but may try it out later down the line. Also, highly recommend you finish the main story before buying the Whispers in the Woods DLC. 9/10, would recommend. TL;DR: Stalker but with a car and no guns.
The graphics, gameplay, and everything is really amazing. It is definetly different and unique from the games I usually play and it's definetly a game I'd recommend everyone to try out at least one. 100% worth the buy.
Прикольная тема, затягивает знатно
There's too much stuff that pissed me off in this game. Sorry, it's not a bad game, but it's certainly not good either. It's just OK. I do not recommend it
