Overwatch®

This is the game with which I've spent the most time in recent months. I could lie to myself and say I play it because it's what my friends play. And in part, that is a big reason why I like it. It's also not the full picture. I feel shameful to admit that I like live service games, because I'm not their primary "victim". I really do not care about skins or cosmetics at all, and the allure of opening my wallet and spending my money to the demonic corporation that is Activision Blizzard never once caught my desire. Yet, I do appreciate the constantly changing landscape of Overwatch. New maps, new heroes, new lore, new stuff to talk about. It's the same thing that I have with Magic the Gathering. It's a forever-game, an object to follow through reaction videos, gameplay breakdowns, patch notes analysis, comic readings, interviews, reddit threads, all of it. I'm immersed in it. You could take the cynical view and say the system caught me, too. Sometimes I do ponder if I'm wasting my time with this. But the game is also really, really good. I feel like I am Ramattra when I'm pummeling down enemies and resisting threats. I feel like I am Venture when I'm burrowing around and popping out under enemies. And I definitely feel like a Wrecking Ball when I'm swinging around hitting the entire enemy team before raining down a minefield. I understand the hate it got. And the game still has a lot of problems, especially with its financial model. But at its core, I can see the passion behind its developers, and I love it for it.
