Over The Top: WWI

Fun, and very hectic playing online. Still fun against bots offline. Play online for the challenge, and offline for better immersion. It was primarily designed to be a 3rd person shooter, but it can be played in 1st person as well, and server operators can force 1st person as well. Destruction is great, and the terrain deformation and trench building makes things interesting. Building defensive structures can sometimes be a bit janky, but not terrible and has been improved since initial release. Aircraft, armored vehicles, and tanks are fun to use and very powerful if used properly... Though I will say, I wish the aircraft flew in a more realistic manner. But, I can't expect a ground warfare focused game to have realistic flight dynamics so it's not a deal breaker. Audio is great. Everything feels powerful, nothing stands out to me as feeling out of place. It's a fun shooter, and very well done especially having been made by only 4 developers. Check it out on a free weekend to get a feel for the madness, and at less than $20 its a good deal.

I’ve been maining Engineer since I picked this game up, and honestly it’s been the most fun I’ve had in a multiplayer game in a while. Being the guy digging trenches, putting up barbed wire, repairing bunkers, and trying to hold a line while everything around you is getting blown apart never gets old. When your team actually uses the defenses you build, it feels awesome. You can genuinely change how a battle plays out just by building in the right spots. The best part is how every match ends up looking different. A field that’s wide open at the start can turn into a maze of trenches, craters, and fortifications by the end. It creates some really memorable moments. It’s definitely not perfect, though. There are still some bugs, movement can be a little janky around trenches, and it can be frustrating when nobody on your team bothers helping with construction. Engineer especially depends on teammates understanding what you’re trying to do. Even with those issues, I keep coming back because there really isn’t another game that scratches this itch. If the devs keep updating it and polishing the rough edges, I could easily see this becoming one of my favorite WW1 games. 8/10. Easy recommendation if you like teamwork and don’t mind playing support instead of chasing kills.

This is a dead game

This game is great! I love the digging mechanic, and the point system feels fair and balanced. I have some complaints, however: 1. Reloading animations always start from 0 bullets even if you haven't emptied your weapon - This one is the worst to me, because it's usually very quick to top off your ammo when you are pinned, but instead, you have to cycle through the whole animation before being able to fire again 2. No iron sights - I know this one is constantly mentioned in this community, but I personally believe it's especially relevant now that there is a hardcore mode, which restricts the player to the first person perspective mode 3. Performance isn't really the best (not as bad as Gallipoli, worse than Isonzo) 4. Tanks just do not work in singleplayer because you need a driver/gunner to move and shoot. Maybe this could be waived in offline games so one person can operate both simultaneously with a point reduction to balance it out?

Very good game for ww1 lovers and it is fun with friends (join on the german side )
