I am a big fan of Tokifuji, been reading and viewing their content since "Friends With Benefits". I have read all of the "Outside the Box" line of comics to the current date. The original Outside the Box was a big turning point for me to really get into Tokifuji's works and follow their creations regularly. Based on the reviews, I understood that the game was not worth its usual $9.99 price tag. Thus, I waited until a sale rolled around, turns out Steam's Summer Sale 2024 would be the sale I would dig into this title with, the game was 45% off, at $5.49. I have already read the comic before, and while the promotional videos were not exactly the most impressive, I was willing to give it a fair assessment and it was a good excuse to jump back into the experience in which Milo and Adrian met. To say I was massively disappointed would be a massive understatement. This "game" is barely more than .5 hour to 1.5 hours in length, even accounting for the 3 puzzles during its runtime (one of which caused a crash, so I skipped all puzzles afterward). In my first play through, it crashed twice (luckily I saved, but lost progress). Don't even think about tabbing out because there is a less than 50% chance that you are getting back in without force ending the task. The art quality for the character models in the world and the pinup slides on screen are of a low quality, not including any shading and exhibiting a lack of cleanup. Slides that were pulled from the comic itself look fine but are presented at a low resolution with heavy compression. There are only 3 music choices I heard throughout its runtime and maybe a dozen or so sound effects and foleys. Other than some extremely basic motion tweens on separate layers there are no animations, an big shame given the quality of the artwork in the comic and fan efforts to animate scenes from the comic on other sites (that look better than this game). It runs on a engine that only supports SDL and DIRECTX 9 (an API that was originally released in 2002 with support for Windows 98) and is compiled in 32-bit (almost certainly a factor for contributing to its instability). The only way to change settings is to use an external tool (available in the Steam launch options). The level of polish in the menus and systems looks like something that was published by a single developer learning Unity for the first time, not something published by Hardblush and had 4 people working on it. What irritates me the most is that other games on this platform (Steam, the place you are reading this on) that are of a similar genre that had voice acting, custom animations, decent gameplay mechanics, decision making, and used a modern engine that are cheaper than the base asking price, the sale price, or were even free. There is NO excuse that Hardblush can give for why this project came out in the condition it did. I can say with absolute certainty: This is definitively the worst way to experience "Outside The Box" by Tokifuji, and I will be refunding immediately. If you truly want to enjoy this comic in its best form, I highly recommend simply reading it on the artist's furaffinity: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/23576585/ If you want to financially support Tokifuji, you can do so on their Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/tokifuji (there is a post with the master resolution pages in a zip) or by purchasing something on their store: https://www.tfcomics.biz/ (this exact comic has a physical print, printed in a higher quality than the snippets included in this game)
Very short. Though the story line is fun, I wanted more; maybe an entire came based around the app Cinder. I did have to look at the walk through once because I couldn't see the ruler in the desk chair. I understand the amount of work that went into the art, but for the price, I expected more story.
mmm... boy s..
a short adventure game. overall it's alright. the price of this game is to high but in offer for like -50% alright.

Maaaan, this is so disappointing and could have been SO MUCH MORE! First of all, it kept crashing on me all the time. I had to save every minute to avoid scrolling through everything again, because, once again, that might lead to another crash, which you cannot even close properly pretty often. If you alt-tab, you crash. Even if you save the game, you often crash and your save is corrupted. If you do something in the wrong order, you either soft-lock yourself...or crash! It feels very cheap, with basically zero effort put into it. It was probably made within a few hours or days at most as a cash grab... Additional art that was not in the comic feels so basic and not up to the standard of Toki's work that you start thinking an AI could have done a better job (speaking as an AI hater and an artist myself). Many actions, or rather restrictions, are illogical and artificial. You can soft lock yourself. The puzzles are boring and illogical (or I'm just this stupid). They also crashed the game for me at least 3 times (STAPH!) - at least there is an option to skip them, I guess? It is too short, if I understood everything correctly. I did not finish it and will be refunding it, because it makes little to no sense to 'play' it if you have already seen the whole comic. There are also no plans to extend it past the first chapters, and the game has received zero fixes or plans to update or finish it... There is a lack of polish in general. Only 2-3 tunes, no voice-overs, almost zero sounds, and probably no even a soundscape (or it was so bland that I completely forgot about it). 1080p only, no animations, and the extra drawings are crude. :< There is so much stuff they could have done with the mini-games and the game itself! At least give us something to read, come on... Shame/10 Read the comic instead if you are into that kind of thing. I hope it will get updated properly one day, but I would not bet on that, rather on the contrary. BIG F KING SAD. Now excuse me while I go and cry in my bed alone because of these traumatic experiences. *sniff-sniff*
Just read Toki's comics online, this is an incredibly barebones and shallow point and click that I saw everything from in only 50 Minutes, the game is often unclear on how you're supposed to progress hiding items in obtuse spots of the screen in attempt to artifically boost playtime and there were typos and even apparently had a softlock in previous versions, Toki's art is the only good thing about thing game so just read the Webcomics if you want your dose of adorable furry fembois. Picked this up on sale and was still incredibly disappointed even after knowing the poor reviews before hand, I am requesting a refund and will just go read some of Toki's art online instead.
