Onus draws you in with its graphic style, music, and storyline, which all merge together to feel mysteriously ominous. Even though the battle-style feels familiar, it doesn't play with kid-gloves. The battles will not allow me to just half-ass my way through, and hoard potions like I'm used to. Wandering through the expansive world, the planet Onus, it's plenty easy to get lost. You better make sure you take in all of the games attention to detail if you want to be able to navigate well. I recommend examining everything you can, which is almost everything, to gather info on the multi-species histories of Onus, it's citizens personal lives, questionable items, and importantly of course, to gather crumbs of information on the present situation. I honestly feel like I've barely scratched the surface. There's even mini-books with familiar references for those of us here on Earth. The art style is intentionally gritty, you're unlikely to find a crisp, clean line here, which adds to its unique feel. The music is ambient and unsettling as you make your way through the game as a member of one of the sentient species, a Kawasari, which are apparently not well liked by humans. Battling wild animals of some description along the way, you figure out there's some kind of war happening and somehow you might be an important part of it I honestly couldn't predict where any of this is actually going, all I can say is, don't spend all your money on equipment at the first shop.
Ounus is a weird, charming, weird, endearing, weird, engaging, weird, humorous, weird and wonderful gem of a game reminiscent of the classic RPGs of old. It gives you a strange world to explore, a myriad of strange people to talk to, an impressive variety of enemies to get destroyed by and expects you to not have the attention span of a fish as you, just like the character, try to figure out what the ♥♥♥♥ this is all about. P.S the developer is clearly somewhat mad, and it shows in the best way.
Great game! This is a template holder for a future Video review later coming... Play this game people! have your mind melt as you navigate in a world unknown to you.... BRB
This game has some good lore and story, with a decent amount of quests and side quests. Curious to see what the next chapter holds. The graphics are quite unique being hand drawn. I had a small amount of trouble with what was walkable terrain at the start but thats the only gripe I had. If you like to fight abominations and explore a refreshingly unique and odd world then check this game out.
Definitely worth a couple of bucks. It's funny, really smart, and lots of fun.
