Pretty much my favourite game of all time; I don't think anything else takes its place. The first game was already an extraordinary metroidvania in its own right, and this one elevates it in every good way. The art design is unparalleled. The entire game has such a detailed, rich, vibrant, and living quality. It is the most visually appealing game I have ever experienced. And it goes without saying that Gareth Coker's soundtrack elevates the entire experience to an audio-visual masterpiece. But the gameplay itself is also peak. It is [i] the most [/i] fun, satisfying and well-executed platforming gameplay in any platformer game, which is complimented by the addition of a much more dynamic combat system (one of the most highlighted upgrades between the first and second game). 11/10. Not only is this a golden standard of platforming when it comes to gameplay, but it is also an art piece that deserves to be experienced.
