About
“Bell Platinum” also known as “Ocean’s Venus”, now shipwreck, used to be a cargo ship built in the 1950s traveling the North Atlantic ocean. As a newly hired maintenance worker aboard, you live through the vessel’s final voyage, uncovering and documenting its dark history.
Throughout your work day, you must make sure the ship’s systems are in check and are working as they should.
A dead worker is a bad worker. If anything or anyone gets in your way, you must always have a careful plan of escape, since there’s not much else you can protect yourself with.
Certain crucial game mechanics may require close attention to sound - using headphones in a quiet environment is highly recommended!

Very spooky, tense and creative little game! Great sound design and attention to detail, with a fun gameplay loop. Horror is best when simple, and this game is a prime example of that principle. Wonderful stuff!

This game was fun. Creepy and scary. I am really bad with horror games but I love the genre and this one made me scream with the jump scares.

the monster just camps the main hall and you're forced to wait doing nothing for minutes until it hopefully leaves. good idea, bad execution
"Ocean's Venus" is a short GameMaker Studio tech demo that presents the gamer with some point and click adventuring through static screens. The venue: A cargo ship built in the 1950's with electronic touchpads and computers, so you know, I guess the developer learned all they know about the 1950's from any era other than the 1950's. It's a "horror" themed game, and the horror is knowing someone out there genuinely thought it would be okay to spend $100 to publish this on Steam Direct. What do you do in the game? Point and clicking, a couple of mini puzzles like a little ripoff of Pipe Dream. This comes across as something unambitious and "simple" in terms of implementation and technical quality and depth, more like a game dev tutorial or an experiment. It's a classic case of a developer prioritizing the low effort needed to get a game listed on Steam over the actual delivery of a technically sound or compelling product. Whatever is needed to hammer out something "good" enough for Steam Direct self-publishing. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. This was made with the godawful "GameMaker Studio" construction kit/toolset, which is popular amongst amateur developers because it handholds you through making really crap 2D games that you can publish for $100 on Steam Direct. This lets you pat yourself on the back for pretending to be a real game developer, which explains why GameMaker Studio is responsible for so much ignored garbage on Steam. GameMaker Studio has never really been used to make a truly successful game, but that doesn't stop people from trying and failing. It's a particularly bad game engine that can only be used for making low quality 2D products. Like this. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as the old saying goes. Another reason this particular game wasn't successful. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
