Nordlicht is a short, story-driven point-and-click adventure developed by illius and published by Sedoc LLC, crafted with a strong emphasis on atmosphere, emotion, and visual storytelling. Rather than aiming for mechanical complexity or elaborate branching narratives, the game focuses on a heartfelt journey experienced through the eyes of a young girl named Aurora. Accompanied by her inventive father Rupert and their endearing guinea pig companion Peter, Aurora embarks on an annual voyage toward the northern seas. What begins as a simple family expedition gradually unfolds into a reflective tale about love, memory, and resilience against both natural and personal challenges. The narrative is the central pillar of Nordlicht. Told with gentle pacing and subtle emotional cues, the story explores themes of family bonds, coping with loss, and finding strength in shared experiences. The writing avoids melodrama, instead presenting moments of quiet reflection that give the journey depth without overwhelming the player. Aurora’s perspective adds innocence and curiosity to the unfolding events, creating a tone that is both whimsical and sincere. Although the overall runtime is relatively short, typically lasting only a couple of hours, the game’s concise structure ensures that each scene contributes meaningfully to the emotional arc. Gameplay adheres to classic point-and-click conventions. Players guide Aurora through beautifully illustrated environments, interacting with objects, collecting items, and solving light inventory-based puzzles. The puzzle design remains accessible throughout, rarely veering into frustration or obscurity. Solutions generally rely on observation and logical thinking rather than complex combinations or hidden triggers. This approach keeps the focus on narrative progression rather than mechanical challenge. Occasional interactive segments introduce minor variations, such as guiding a boat through icy waters, but these sequences serve more to enhance immersion than to introduce difficulty. One of Nordlicht’s strongest qualities lies in its art direction. The hand-drawn visuals evoke the warmth of a children’s storybook, yet they carry enough detail to convey mood and atmosphere effectively. Snow-covered landscapes, cozy interiors, and maritime backdrops are rendered with soft color palettes and expressive lighting. Each scene feels thoughtfully composed, contributing to the emotional resonance of the story. The absence of voice acting does not detract from immersion; instead, the combination of written dialogue and evocative imagery allows players to project their own interpretation onto the characters. The soundtrack complements the visual presentation with gentle, melodic compositions that reinforce the contemplative tone. Music subtly underscores key moments without dominating the experience, enhancing the sense of quiet wonder that defines the journey. Ambient sounds and environmental details further immerse the player in the northern setting, creating a cohesive sensory atmosphere that feels intimate and personal. While Nordlicht does not offer extensive replay value or mechanical depth, its brevity can be seen as one of its strengths. The game delivers a focused and complete story without unnecessary padding. Players seeking complex puzzle systems or branching outcomes may find the experience modest, but those drawn to emotionally driven adventures will likely appreciate its clarity and sincerity. It functions best as a narrative vignette—compact yet meaningful. Ultimately, Nordlicht succeeds as a heartfelt indie adventure that prioritizes atmosphere and storytelling over spectacle. Its combination of charming art, gentle puzzles, and emotional depth creates a memorable journey that lingers beyond its short runtime. For players who value intimate, story-centered experiences with a warm and reflective tone, Nordlicht offers a quiet but impactful voyage into the far north. Rating: 7/10

Voto: 6,5/10 e lode
There aren't a whole lot of point and click adventure games where you can say the whole point is to warm the heart of the player. Nordlicht on the other hand is one such game. Practically everything about this game feels like it was made for the sole purpose of brightening your spirit. The Story: A family overcoming challenges to see each other. The Gameplay: Simple and easy to understand. The Graphics: Colorful, stylized and tickles the imagination the same way opening a children's picture book would. The characters in particular are very adorable to look at. The Music: Calm and relaxing, which is perhaps the cherry on top for the atmosphere of this game. The only complaint I can give is that it seems to attract certain fantasy and science fiction elements in ways that would intrigue the player, but are either ignored once explored or never explored all together. Which I find disappointing because if you were to put in a stone altar that apparently leads to another world or statues whose eyes light up for specific reasons, why wouldn't you go further with those elements? But I digress. Apart from the missed opportunities stated above, Nordlicht is still a relaxing and calming game at its core. Playing it will remind you of those childhood memories of getting yourself ready for school, hiking on a camping trip or even just heading out of town to see other family. If you're having a bad day and just need some cheering up, go ahead and play this. You won't regret it.
