Don't get me wrong, all games are fun at first. Exploring a world for the first time, being a freaking WIZARD and experimenting with literal wands like how often do you play a game like this, not even feeling mad but ready to replay the experience that you learned from even if you died. But once you've past the point of the being new you literally just hit a wall and have nothing else to do. Not sure why I played as much as I did, all of it was time wasted. I'd separate the game into 2 parts: The first part is learning how the game works, reachable locations, what spells are good and useless, you know like what you do when playing a game for the first time. The second part? Oh well you'd never even know what's beyond your spawn area and what to do because you weren't lucky enough to get the right spells to progress that far AND because this game requires you to look at the wiki for all the answers. But then you slowly realize you would have never found any of that information without looking it up, which literally takes away the essential part of what you get out of a videogame, playing it for YOURSELF and not living it through a tutorial or a given answer. Even after over 100 hours you'd still have 0 clue what you're doing. In order to save you your own sanity, time, and boredom, you WILL be relying on the wiki for everything or else you like mindlessly venturing out with no clue what's next. How much you progress you make really does depend on RNG. Unless you spawn in with great spells that'll allow you to destroy the environment and wands that can hold its capacity you pretty much don't go anywhere that doesn't seem like the introduction. Even if you do finally get something good, you get to experiment with it for a bit, but that gets old. It can only be used in so many ways with how limited in resources you are that most wands you make are the exact same, just the repetitive digging tools and automatic or shotgun weapons. If you want to use it in any other way that's useful, welp here comes having to rely on wiki's and other peoples gameplay to learn anything. Dying tens of hundreds of times to learn nothing, start back over and do the same thing over again is no one's cup of tea. There's a big difference between being difficult as a challenge versus being hard just to be hard. Every negative review here is 100% true.
While I can understand why somebody wouldn't like Noita, I honestly think it's a perfect video game. It's very challenging and often confusingly punishing, but it balances that with also occasionally being unfair. It's the ultimate example of emergent gameplay. There is no hand-holding. There is great jazzy music that play while you attempt to become more powerful than the gods that observe you. It's raw trial and error, asking you to be comfortable with all possible outcomes of your experimentation and curiosity. The "weapon" variety is unmatched. Absolutely massive amounts of enemies and bosses. The world is gigantic. Ever played Dark Souls? Remember that sense of awe that came with the elevator ride down to Firelink Shrine, or when you kick that ladder down and realize you're back at the Undead Burg? Remember how amazing that felt? This game will do that dozens and dozens and dozens of times. I bought this game for $10. This must be how Livingston and Monroe felt when they finalized the Louisiana Purchase.
