Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart

Very nice and great HOG !!

A solid HO game. There's not much to say about this one, expect a classic piraty plot, ghost pirates, references (or stolen ideas) from Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island. Puzzles are logical, most minigames are interesting and won't overstay their welcome. All HOs scenes are completable without going crazy, but if you don't like them, you have the option of playing an alternative mahjong game, which is nothing incredible, but it's nice they included it. The only real bad thing, is the FMV compression. You are barely understanding what's going on behind a blur of pixels that for some reason look like something from the early 90s. Still, a good start for this pirate trilogy.

I bought the full Nightmare from the Deep series quite a while ago on Fanatical. I've been on a binge playing HOGs and Point & Clicks recently and was excited to find this trilogy in my catalog. I remember playing them when they came out and loving it. They really stood out to me at the time compared to other HOGs. There is clearly a lot of effort and love put into the art and animations in this game and it is part of what made me love it so much. I will let you know that for some reason in the steam version of this game the cutscenes are very blurry, which is a shame since the cutscenes are great. You can watch them in good quality on youtube though. This game is also not available on for purchase on steam anymore but you can still get keys on other sites. NftD is a hidden object series I recommend to people as one to try if you are looking for a fun, quality HOG. The sequel is even better! If you have this in your library or come across a key I definitely recommended giving it a play!

For a click-adventure game from 2012, this is actually pretty cool.

[h2] Save Our Daughter from An Infamous Undead Pirate! [/h2] Looking through Artifex Mundi’s catalog of hidden object games, I came across one series that sadly can’t be found on Steam anymore: [i]Nightmares from the Deep[/i]. Further looking into the series made me want to have the chance to play the games, so I went about and checked to see if I could get Steam keys for them. Thankfully, I was able to do so, so I wanted to start with the first installment. [i]The Cursed Heart[/i] puts you in the shoes of a woman who owns a museum and has just received a shipment containing the body of the infamous and terrifying pirate Captain Remington. A new exhibit detailing his life is being put together. However, we unknowingly bring him back to life through his items. The night turns to chaos as he kidnaps our daughter in an attempt to resurrect his love. It’s up to us to travel with them to Skull Island and save her before it’s too late. What will she learn about the pirate captain during her quest that will change her perspective? Can she save her daughter before the night ends? I wanted to play this game mainly because it combined supernatural elements with pirates and hidden object games, which I love. Honestly, the combination really worked well here. I absolutely adored the dark atmosphere, and I felt really immersed in it. What also kept me engaged, along with the atmosphere, was the main story and tragic backstory behind Captain Remington. In addition, thankfully, the puzzles and minigames weren’t too complicated, so I didn’t have to skip any of them. The hidden object scenes weren’t too complex either, but if you don’t want to do them, you can switch to playing mahjong. The mahjong isn’t too tricky, but it does take a bit of getting used to if you’re not used to it. Like many other hidden object games I know, this one includes a bonus chapter that continues from the end of the main game. It involves our character and her daughter escaping Skull Island and trying to get back home, but running into another ship's wreckage to help its captain. It's not a bad bonus chapter; it's a decent one. However, I don’t think our character’s getting her job back after half of the museum is destroyed by a ghostly pirate ship. Nobody is going to believe her. [h1] 4 out of 5 ★★★★☆! [/h1]

Decent P&C game, although the graphics become very blurry at certain points. 6/10
