Nightmare House: The Original Mod

# Nightmare House — A Great Free Horror Mod I played Nightmare House years ago through ModDB, so when I saw the mod available on Steam, I immediately had to download it and play it again. And honestly, this mod is still **really damn good. Nightmare House is a fantastic horror mod for Half-Life 2, with a surprisingly long and interesting experience for something that is completely free. The atmosphere is excellent, the story is interesting, and the horror moments are actually well placed instead of just throwing cheap jumpscares at you every five seconds. The graphics still hold up surprisingly well in twenty twenty-six**. Of course, you can see the age of the Source engine in some places, and some of the animations are definitely a little wooden by today's standards, but considering this is a free mod, it still looks very good. The gameplay also has a nice balance between **horror, exploration and action. You get creepy moments where you are simply trying to figure out what the hell is happening, but there is also enough combat and action to keep things interesting. The atmosphere is probably one of the strongest parts of the mod. The environments, lighting, sound design and unexpected events create a really good horror experience, especially if you play alone with headphones. And the best part? It's free. You only need to own Half-Life 2 to play it. The Steam release also makes the mod much easier to access compared to downloading it manually from ModDB. It also runs perfectly fine on modern hardware, so you shouldn't have any problems running it on a modern gaming PC. If you enjoy Half-Life 2, old-school Source mods or horror games, **give Nightmare House a try. It's an old mod, but it still holds up surprisingly well — and for a free horror experience, there isn't much to complain about. Highly recommended. And yes... play it with headphones. 😈
