About
This is an ongoing project of a multi-chapter game. Chapters 1 & 2 are included in the full version. Download the demo to play all of Chapter 1 for free!
After a terrifying storm plummets their plane into an oceanic death, three pilots find themselves in a mysterious realm known as "The Island", a flourishing paradise for those worthy of a 2nd life. Saved by the hands of a humble mage, the pilots and their passengers have no choice but to forget their old lives and start anew. However, they find themselves in nothing close to paradise...
The Island recently taken by a terrifying phantom, our unlikely heroes must secure the very deity that brought you here.
...
Er, brought THEM here, more accurately...
Tasked with reclaiming The Island from the phantom's clutches, our heroes set forth to carry justice, honor, and [ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DANGEROUS OR CONCERNING IN THE SLIGHTEST] to The Island once again. Can you conquer the challenges of this vaguely typical adventure? Or will you soon learn that not everything is as it-
...
N-No, wait. You're right. That's too much. I'll erase the whole recording and start over.
...!?
No! Please! I didn't mean to foreshadow so much! Just give me another chance! I've waited to talk to them for so long, and I-... I-...!

Following the adventure of Theodore, Vander, and Evana, you must control the lives of those around you to save the world... or ruin it further, if you so choose. Every choice you make must be made through someone else... For without a body of your own, how else can one play the role of god?
The closer your beliefs align with the character, the more control you have over them, whether it be the outcome of battle or the way you wish to alter one's beliefs. Though some characters are a lot more... "rebellious" than others, with the right balance of freedom and control, you can convince the characters to do just about anything... For they cannot tell the difference between your influence and their own thoughts.
In the grand scheme of things, your wishes are their commands. After all, the characters behind your screen are just puppets designed for your entertainment, right?
...
...Right?
Explore strange locations and societies in an open-world environment to expand your colony, make alliances, recruit party members, and slay all you deem your enemies.
Decide friend versus foe in hectic turn-based combat where every kill counts, each death affecting your timeline in various ways. The longer you fight, the harder it gets.
Interact with your recruits to raise their stats, prepare them for battle, and learn more about their lives back home.
Force a character to fall in love, only to break them up in an attempt to pursue a maniacal mastermind using nuclear sludge to assassinate an alcoholic king? Apparently, that's something you can do.
With unexpected twists and turns around every corner, Night Spasm is nothing more than a game... Though, truthfully, it's somehow... less than that: A game where you're not the hero or the villain, but merely an influence of good and evil. Without you, there is no "game", but rather, a lifeless relic frozen in time, patiently awaiting the day someone comes... Not to "win" or "progress", but to have some relaxing, insightful, brain-teasing FUN! That's what you're here for, isn't it?
Or, you know, maybe it is just a game in the end... But who's to say for sure until certain mysteries unveil themselves?
Through the game's characters, lore, world, and the choices you make, there is much to learn about yourself. Will you take the role of storyteller and change the timeline to your liking? Or will the vessels be the ones with something to say for once?

"There. That should do it. See? It's easy."
"You gave just as much spoilery information as I did! You just want all of the credit for yourself, don't you!?"
"Maybe so, but we can't mess this up. Elijah would smite us for failing this."
"Tsk! Like he's a god! He couldn't hurt us if he WANTED to, the bodiless freak!"
"..."
"Do you think it'll work? Do you think it'll reach them all?"
"We took this step because we already know it will work. Though we lack proof, we can only trust what Elijah tells us. He got us this far."
"I think he's making stuff up at this point! He tells us allllll these things about the future, but none of it has happened yet! And every time we adjust the map, he needs a million changes made! What's stopping him from going against his 'source' anyway? And better yet, where does his source get the information, whoever he is!?"
"Believe it or not, I think The Source resides in the same realm we've been tasked to breach."
"If literally ANY of this is true, that is!"
"(Sigh...)"
"..."
"Soon, when the breach does what cannot be undone, their curiosity and perseverance will determine our freedom of choice, for better or for worse. The more they strive to understand our world, the more choices they can make... But with each distraction will come a journey down the rabbit hole, their desire for answers our only hope in saving this place. I do wonder if they'll let their enemy hinder their freedom. Or perhaps, they'll suppress their beliefs and let US dictate what little control they started with."
"You better hope your message is good enough, or we all suffer! I can only hope our music does its job properly..."
"Yes. Let's all be careful... For until we finish the final step..."
"Who the hell knows what's about to happen?"
"..."
"Is this thing still recording??"

the first time i heard night spasm i could only think about theodore's exquisite mustache, when i started playing it there were more characters with excellent mustaches so couldn't not give this game a review (i can only dream of having mustaches like these) 10/10 5 stars
Very fun game with a banger soundtrack, I highly recommend that you play this game.

AMAZING GAME 10 out of 10 would recommend
☀️
The game story looked alright. But there was too much switching around of characters - there was no info in the tutorial about why they weren't in a party altogether - there are 3 leaders and you had to keep finding people to fill up 3 parties which was nonsense & the weapon/armour equipping was so complex it was tiring - weapons and armour wear out & you had to keep going back to your base to fix them - very annoying. Also the day/night change over was odd. It meant you could only really find monsters to fight half the time so levelling up was tedious. I don't recommend this game.
Before I played Night Spasm, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
I thought I was a gamer before I played this game, BUT BOI WAS I WRONG. I think its safe to say this game made me a gamer. The dialogue isn't boring, the characters are funny, and the soundtrack... moans. 10/10
Doesn't work. I keep getting an anti-piracy message when I try to play the game. Tried multiple times. I'm out. 17/4/2024 update: Game is now playable, but... it's not fun. It feels like it takes ages to get anywhere. There are consumable items to give a temporary movement speed boost, but unless the movement speed as-is is important to something, I'd suggest ditching the items and just increasing the movement speed. Harvesting resources like trees is clunky and feels bad. Currently I have to open the menu, change equipment to the axe (for example), close the menu, cut the tree, open the menu again, change equipment back, and close the menu again. I suggest just requiring the player have the appropriate tool in their inventory, rather than needing it equipped. I thought the crafting room and kitchen in the base would have more happening in them, like maybe I could set colonists to work on making things, but so far this doesn't seem to be the case. The rooms don't really feel useful beyond collecting resources or repairing items. Finally, please get a proof reader.
RPG Maker strikes again! "Night Spasm" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This is your usual high school anime club dropout fan-fiction cringe fest but at least the developer forgot to include his imaginary girlfriend in this one. There's some garbage claptrap story about pilots crashlanding in a fantasy world, but this RPG Maker asset flip fan-fiction isn't even a complete game, the developer was going to charge money for Chapter 2 (which is where the imaginary girlfriend/waifu would be, I guess). Anyway, on par with every other RPG Maker asset flip on Steam: A godawfully badly written and badly designed cringefest fan-fiction written just below junior high schooler level. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $10 USD for this. Talk about delusions of grandeur. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Even after that, this isn't a complete game, a chapter 2 was planned, which, if anyone had played this, would then be expected to bought and paid for. This is misleading and predatory pricing on a product falsely marketed as "free". In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. I didn't pay money, but I still feel ripped off.
