Characters are ok but AI sucks in this one.
Night of the Extinct is a very short walking game. You sneak into a museum at night and try not to get mauled by the living displays. Well, one of them really. The game is simple. You mostly just walk through it. There are 2 puzzles though, but nothing major. The ''sight'' of the enemy is so bad you can hide behind a large fase or cutout you are actively carrying around. That's also all that can be said, its a simple fun, but very short game. Good if you got 30 min to waste.

Pretty cool mascot horror game. I do hope in chapter 2 they add actual puzzles instead of just pressure plate ones tho
This is a cute little game which is short, but free. It has 3D cartoon graphics, which help foster a light-hearted atmosphere. The game should take you between 1.0 to 1.5 hours to complete twice. You play as a social media influencer. You have heard a museum is haunted, so you have snuck in after closing with the idea of spending the night there and filming your adventure. You must collect a few items, sneak past the guard. and solve some puzzles. The farther you go into the depths of the museum, the more complicated the puzzles get. However, they are not mind-benders. They are only pushing buttons and placing items on pressure plates. By 'more complicated", I simply mean going from 1 pressure plate to 2 pressures plates to 3 pressure plates, etc. The hardest puzzle is pushing 4 buttons by doors, then placing 6 vases on pressure plates, all while trying to not be seen (and eaten) by a sabertooth tiger. You have the choice of whether to view your surroundings normally, or through a camera. I played twice, using both views, and did not notice any difference at all. Maybe the camera was a mechanic that never got fully implemented. Also, you would think there is a lot of stealth involved in getting past both a guard and a tiger. However, the stealth mechanic is as lacking as the camera mechanic. You actually spend most of your time sprinting from hiding place to hiding place, like behind stone columns or glass display cases. It is kind of silly that a sabertooth tiger cannot hear you at all, or see you behind glass display cases. The game has 10 achievements, but they do not count on your Profile. There are no trading cards, no Point Shop items, and no replayability after you have gotten all of the achievements. A few of the achievements are missable, so you may have to play it twice like I did. The game did run perfectly fine. I experienced no bugs or glitches. It is too bad this game did not have more to it. It was fun.
I feel bad since this is both free and shows an IMMENSE amount of work and charm in its presentation and writing. the live vo is great, the creature and character designs are awesome and the premise is so good - its even actually funny! but the design and level design decisions are just off imho and make the game much of a chore and confusing than it ever needed to be. to be frank i DID give up after only the second altercation, maybe it opens up and gets better? but the game really gives you the impression that its design intent is you creeping slowly to avoid detection. but the problem is even the security guard can see you provided there is clear line of sight, and thats completely ignoring distance, his flashlight cone, and even the ai's pathfinding. by the latter what i mean is he can see and hear you from across the entire room INTO the room you start in, but he cant get to you because i guess the devs didnt have his pathfinding do that. so what ends up happening is immediately youve lost immersion in the game and the ai are both incredibly stupid but also hyper sensitive and aggressive. this wouldnt be an issue (too much) if the level design supported this, but it doesnt. the level design is made of tiny rooms and hallways. the opening sequence has a few items you can use for cover, but those seem unreliable and no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get through undetected. so i ended up just running. all the while the security guard cant keep up and is shouting the same three barks, that are charming and funny the first time, but get old after being said over and over as you fumble around looking for a key or whatever to progress in the office room which, again btw, the security guard cant enter. so again hyper aggressive, but also stupid, taking you out of it and killing the atmosphere. so the design intent to me is giving me mixed messages, and the level design doesnt support either intent. so i either run arounda tiny room with this tiger chasing me pressing buttons or i creep at a snails pace constantly hiding behind stuff so i cant see him and he cant see me and PRAY he gives me enough time to move? If the intent was to have you running, then the levels need to be way more open and there needs to be points where the player can turtle and stay safe, even if just momentarily. if the design is to creep and sneak, the enemy ai needs to be way less strict/stupid - id pick one but ideally try both. also maybe just me, but like... the second altercation says press the switches to activate safety slots or something? what the hell does that mean lol? how about press the buttons to open the emergency exit or something instead? i feel like you guys made everything harder for yoursves when this could've just been a cool little scripted adventure with some chase sequences. good ai hunters are hard to make, why give yourself more work? just a thought. sorry if i sound hars, man i really want to dig this its so fun and charming and such a great idea but i just think theres better options that will cause less friction with most players.
I LOVED IT !! HOWT IT LOOKED EVERYTHING KEEP GOING !!!
Ja, was soll ich sagen… Das Spiel ist der reinste Fiebertraum.... Kurz, aber effektiv... Ein Säbelzahntiger jagt mich. Eine Eule redet mit mir. Ich werde nie wieder in ein Museum gehen... 8/10 LG
