About

This game is an indie, passion-project single-player survival RTS game designed to put the player's species on a foreign and hostile land, and let the player lead them from humble beginnings to an eventual complete exploitation of an unknown world.
You will have to find said planet to populate. Though, you should be wary of the space anomalies occupying specific planets and solar systems. After descending to a planet's surface, your objective becomes to find a way to brave this new world, teeming with alien life.
Gather resources like wood, stone and food. Eventually, you might even find a way to refine them into something more precious?
Explore different biomes, lead expeditions into ruins or even wilder parts of the planet!
Build, develop and expand your colony to prosper.
Are you ready to lead your species to new frontiers?

I tried out this game thinking it was in mid-ish Early Access, and holy crap... This is, at best, at the level of a very early tech demo or proof-of-concept. In the most recent update, the Devs wrote: "In the next update, we will be adding an additional expedition that we are currently calling "The Mushroom Swamp!" The expedition will include new exclusive flora, fauna and a boss. Later, we want to add rivers into the game. It will give depth to world exploration and interaction, as well as make space for new creative ways of making transportation around the world. Our furthest goal is to implement a special anomaly that would drown the world in high seas..." The UI is absolute garbage. You can't create groups of units (a staple in the RTS genre for 25+ years). There's no indication as to the stats of your units. You can only open the Research menu by finding and clicking on your Research building (granted, Starcraft pulled this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too, but in that *every* building had its own tech tree). You're zoomed in way too close to your units. The game lacks basic functionality (nevermind basic art assets), but the Dev is off adding features? Wtf...? $0 was too much for this game, I want my 10min back.

"Nettle" is a laughably bad attempt to make a single player RTS, and the result was a disaster... shallow gameplay, a pointless narrative about populating some other planet, and some of the worst graphics ever to insult gamers. Weirdly, people actually played this, and there's no explanation for that, because this really is junk. The developers gave up on this 10 months ago. It's destined to remain unfinished. This junkware is just polluting Steam and making it difficult for gamers to fully finished, completed games. That's not good for gamers. The technical execution of this game is shallow and simplistic, just enough to tick the boxes required to get something (anything) published on Steam, rather than investing the huge amount of effort and budget needed to create a fully fledged, comprehensive, high quality product. This feels like a tech demo more than a full game. In terms of visuals, this features really godawful MS-Paint tier "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. The deplorably bad visuals here come across as an insult to gamers. On the important matter of pricing and value for gamers, there's a lot going on here with monetisation, so this really shouldn't be considered a truly free product because of that. It's free for now, but the developer intends to charge for this if it ever leaves Early Access... but considering the poor public reception, it's likely this will not be one of the 25% of games that ever gets finished and leaves Early Access. Furthermore, the developer has their hand out for a $5 USD "donation" for this as you're expected to give them money for soundtrack DLC (that's already in the game) from Steam to "support" the "developer"... digital panhandling. Like the homeless guys who splash dirty water on your windscreen at the traffic lights. No thanks. The developer locked content behind DLC and is selling paid DLC for a game that's still in Early Access. "Nettle" isn't finished, comes across as pretty much abandoned, yet there's already paywalled content on sale (no matter what the content is). They can't find the time to complete the game, but they have all the time in the world to make "new" content for the game and put a price tag on it. That greed and unethical abuse of Steam Early Access makes this come across as a cash grab, a scam. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? Definitely not. This isn't worth it. I'm paraphrasing another reviewer here, but this should be a paid product... they'd have to pay people to download it.

Interesting ideas but the game just feels worse than most games I played. This would need tons and tons of polish before it becomes a game I would be interested in.
