Just played it for 2 minutes and died because I didn't move fast for the ice archers, I'll take the L but when I respawned I continued to fall through the map. So I'm going to have to say this one needs more tuning.

Hey so when i start the local multiplayer, i have an isssue where input from the keyboard is not recognized
Nerthus: Einar's Fate is a compact fantasy action game that blends third-person shooting principles with elemental magic, mythology-inspired environments, survival encounters, and local cooperative play. Developed by Tomato Rangers and ESAT and published by ESAT, it follows Revnar, a powerful Guardian responsible for restoring balance to the troubled land of Einar. Although the game has the foundations of a considerably larger adventure, its available content remains relatively limited, making it best approached as a short experimental fantasy shooter rather than a fully developed action RPG. The story revolves around the disappearance of the heart of Nerthus, a sacred object whose presence once helped maintain harmony throughout Einar. The land had long been protected by the Varoa Viss, an ancient order of mystical guardians responsible for preserving balance. When the heart is stolen, its absence causes creatures throughout the region to become corrupted and hostile. Revnar is therefore sent to confront these transformed inhabitants, cleanse the affected areas, recover the missing artifact, and restore it to its rightful place. Combat provides the strongest reason to experience the game. Instead of handing Revnar conventional firearms, the third-person shooting structure is built around magical attacks. Four elemental runes provide different offensive possibilities, giving players several ways to confront enemies while maintaining the immediate aiming and movement associated with a shooter. The elemental theme also makes the combat fit naturally within the mythology-inspired world rather than feeling like standard gunplay placed inside a fantasy environment. Revnar possesses additional Guardian powers that reinforce his identity as an experienced magical protector. Battles favor movement and quick reactions, especially when several corrupted enemies attack simultaneously. Positioning becomes important because remaining stationary can quickly leave the player surrounded. The combination of ranged magical attacks and active movement produces an enjoyable rhythm once the controls become familiar, although the limited overall content means that the combat system never receives enough opportunities to evolve into something truly deep. Enemy variety is one of the most obvious restrictions. Three main enemy types are available, with different abilities helping distinguish their behavior. Initially, learning how each opponent attacks gives encounters some tactical variety. Over time, however, repeated exposure makes their patterns predictable. This becomes increasingly noticeable in Survival Mode, where combat is expected to carry the experience for longer periods. A larger roster of creatures would have encouraged more experimentation with elemental powers and made enemy groups significantly less repetitive. Story Mode consists of four levels that guide players through Revnar's mission. These areas introduce the setting while providing opportunities to learn the combat mechanics and experience the fantasy environments. The stages have enough visual character to support the mythological premise, but the campaign is undeniably short. Players expecting a lengthy narrative adventure, extensive exploration, or numerous locations will quickly discover the limits of the current build. Survival Mode provides additional replay value by using the available environments for more combat-focused challenges. Players must endure continuous groups of enemies while dealing with multiple objectives during a session. The mode suits the fast magical combat surprisingly well because it removes much of the narrative structure and concentrates directly on fighting. Unfortunately, using the same limited environments and enemy roster means that repetition eventually becomes unavoidable. Local cooperative play is one of the more appealing additions. The game supports shared and split-screen co-op, allowing two players to tackle the action together on the same system. Coordinating magical attacks against groups of enemies can make the relatively simple encounters more entertaining, and full controller support makes couch play considerably more practical. For players specifically searching for smaller local cooperative experiences, this feature provides an additional reason to try the game. The presentation benefits from its Nordic and folk-inspired influences. Einar's landscapes, mystical guardians, magical runes, and corrupted creatures are supported by a soundtrack designed to complement the mythology-driven atmosphere. While the production does not have the scale or refinement of a major fantasy release, the audiovisual direction gives the project an identifiable personality. It feels like a world constructed around a particular theme rather than a collection of unrelated fantasy assets. The most significant concern is its Early Access status and lack of recent development activity. The project originally had plans for additional stages, another mode, progression improvements, balancing, and further polish. However, development updates have been absent for an extended period. Players should therefore evaluate the game based entirely on the content that currently exists rather than assuming unfinished features will eventually appear. This is especially important because the existing structure feels more like the beginning of a larger game than a completed realization of its ideas. Fortunately, its free-to-play availability makes these limitations considerably easier to tolerate. Players can experience the campaign, experiment with elemental combat, try Survival Mode, and explore local co-op without a significant financial commitment. The short length may even suit someone looking for an uncomplicated fantasy action diversion, although players expecting extensive progression, abundant enemies, or a long campaign will probably leave wanting much more. Steam Deck compatibility is not officially classified as Verified or Playable, so the game should be considered unverified for Valve's handheld. Its full controller support and relatively straightforward third-person controls suggest that the basic control scheme may translate reasonably well, but SteamOS performance, local multiplayer behavior, interface readability, and Proton compatibility are not formally guaranteed. Manual configuration or experimentation may therefore be necessary. Nerthus: Einar's Fate ultimately demonstrates plenty of promising ideas within an experience that feels noticeably unfinished. Its elemental magic, active third-person combat, mythology-inspired setting, Survival Mode, local cooperative functionality, and atmospheric soundtrack create an appealing foundation. Limited stages, only a handful of enemy types, modest replay value, and apparently stalled development prevent that foundation from reaching its full potential. As a free fantasy action game, it remains worth sampling, especially with a local co-op partner, but expectations should remain firmly aligned with its small and unfinished scope. Rating: 6/10
